Job overview

The role is one of those rare opportunities to have a truly transformational effect on a school that is on an exciting improvement journey, although it will not be suited to everyone who considers the advert. If you apply for this job it will be because you already are an outstanding senior leader who just needs a new project that will help to make you a compelling applicant for headship in the next two or three years. This is what has happened with the current post holder, who takes up their new headship in September. Meridian High School and the GLF Schools’ Trust are genuinely committed to developing headteachers of the future.

If you apply for this post, you must already be a dynamic, innovative leader who will inspire, motivate and challenge. You will have a ‘roll up your sleeves’ attitude to work and enjoy working in challenging circumstances. Above all, you will be committed to raising the aspirations of a community that has known sustained under-performance.

As a member of the GLF Schools family our aim is simple, to become outstanding. As the Headteacher, from day one, I’ve delivered a very clear message to our staff, students and parents. It is that every one of us must take ownership of ambition and raise our expectations of the success we can achieve, both individually and as a community. This is not a school where complacency is tolerated. This is a school that is totally focused on ensuring that every child is supported and challenged to deliver outstanding personal progress.

For these reasons I need the right person to join our team and to work closely with me in driving standards. Of secondary concern is your main areas of leadership expertise, although a strong track record in leading and developing successful teaching, learning and engagement in a challenging context would be very advantageous. I would welcome you to visit us if you are considering an application and invite you to make an appointment to do so via my PA (details below).

Additionally, as a GLF Schools’ employee, you will enjoy the benefit of working within an excellent support and learning network and will be exposed to significant collaboration opportunities across our schools that will help to refine your development to Headship.

Martin Giles

Headteacher

As a values-led trust, it is important that you fit our culture of growing, learning and flourishing together as collaboration is at the heart of who we are at GLF Schools.
