Job overview

Deputy Headteacher

Salary: L12 – 16, £51,639 – £57,077

Location: Oakwood Primary Academy

Our academy is looking for an inspirational Deputy Headteacher who is looking to consolidate their leadership experience prior to moving in to a Headteacher role in the next few years.  Oakwood Primary Academy is a great place to learn and work. It is situated close to Leeds city centre and is one of eleven schools currently in the Co-op Academies Trust (including four other primary schools in Leeds) which is sponsored by The Co-op, the largest mutual business in the country.  As an expanding Trust with a strong commitment to professional development we are ideally placed to offer someone who already has some experience in a leadership role, and aspirations to become a Headteacher, the opportunity to grow and develop their career with us. The vacancy has arisen because the previous post-holder has moved on to their first headship.

If you share our belief that we must demonstrate the highest standards if our children are to achieve their best, then we would love to hear from you. We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who is truly committed to every child and determined to make a positive difference. Our academies adhere to co-operative values and principles and we listen to the views of children, parents and staff.  Oakwood has a stable, thriving team with long-serving members of staff in key roles. This is an excellent opportunity to prepare for your step into headship.

You will receive national terms and conditions of service and will also benefit from many of The Co-op’s employee benefits, as well as a personalised development plan and mentoring from an experienced Headteacher. We are also willing to help with relocation costs for the right candidate.  We would be delighted to show prospective candidates round our academy prior to them making an application - just call the academy on 0113 2402526 or email the Headteacher directly (r.ingram@oakwood.coop) to arrange a convenient time.

If you are interested in joining us, please email jennica.rama@coop.co.uk for an application form and return your completed form via email to her. Be open and honest in your application, telling us why you are perfect for this role.  Co-op Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all children, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Closing date: Monday 5th March at 12 noon

About  us:

Oakwood is situated in the Gipton area of Leeds, and is a two form entry school with places for 420 pupils. It became a Co-operative Academy in September 2013.

Co-op Academy Oakwood is committed to promoting community cohesion within a multi-cultural and mobile community. Our curriculum and the consistent approach to behaviour and attitudes results in a positive environment; where children are welcomed whatever their background and educational history and quickly become part of the school community.  Children have a very good attitude to school and to learning resulting in high levels of attendance.

An engaging, wide ranging, relevant curriculum creates a school where children of varied backgrounds and experiences can respect each other, contribute, learn, feel valued and make progress. We provide a high quality education with a focus on essential Maths and English skills. This is embedded in a curriculum that offers opportunities for children to achieve in all subjects.  The strong ethos of the school supported by the Co-operative values of the sponsor supports a curriculum that educates explicitly about different backgrounds and cultures within a system that strongly advocates British values, resulting in a positive inclusive atmosphere where effective education takes place.

The Academy is part of the Co-op Academies Trust, a multi-academy trust with academies in Leeds, Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent.

What we offer:
