Job overview
This is a unique opportunity to lead a pioneering school with a strong, engaged community, passionate about developing students who are global citizens, intent on building a better world through a deep understanding of academic disciplines and how that knowledge can be applied to address complex problems.
The International School Hannover Region (ISHR) is a prestigious, independent, and not-for-profit school, accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the IB. In November 2025 we will undertake the final Peer Evaluation Visit of the Collaborative Learning Protocol (CLP) as part of our ongoing reaccreditation and strategic development process. ISHR is authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes: the PYP, the MYP, and the IB Diploma. We are a member of the Association of German International Schools (AGIS) and are officially recognized as an “Ergänzungsschule” by the state of Lower Saxony. ISHR is also a CIS member school and a proud member of ECIS.
As of the 2024/2025 school year, ISHR has approximately 575 students from more than 65 different nations, enrolled from our Early Years Programme through Grade 12 — all following the IB Continuum. We are proud of our IB Diploma results and have connected alumni studying at renowned universities around the world.
ISHR is seeking a strategic, dynamic, and community-focused leader to become our next Director from August 2026. This is a rare opportunity to lead one of Germany’s foremost not-for-profit IB World Schools as both its educational head and Managing Director (CEO).
The successful candidate will be a strategic, visible, and emotionally intelligent leader with significant, pertinent experience and the ability to inspire, empower, and credibly represent ISHR's standing across local, national, and international contexts. The appointee will possess a compelling strategic mindset and strong commercial acumen while remaining an educator at heart, committed to fostering academic excellence, progressive teaching, and the wellbeing of our diverse and delightful student body.
As Director, you will be responsible for:
- Leading the school’s academic vision and operational performance
- Acting as CEO of the GmbH, including full financial, legal, and staffing responsibilities
- Driving strategic planning, innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability
- Fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and positive school culture
- Working closely with the Supervisory Board to ensure mission alignment and long-term sustainability and success
- Representing ISHR with integrity, clarity, and vision — within Hannover, the Association of German International Schools (AGIS), and the global IB community
This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to take on a rewarding, full-scope leadership role — combining educational excellence with executive management and leadership – in the beautiful city of Hannover.
ISHR is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
