DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

SALARY: INNER LONDON LEADERSHIP SCALE - L7 - 10

START: EASTER 2017 OR POSSIBLY SEPTEMBER 2017 FOR AN OUTSTANDING CANDIDATE

Are you passionate about music? Do you want to work at a school that has a music scholarship programme, is sponsored by the Bryan Adams Foundation and wants to become renowned for music excellence over the next 5 years? If so, you may be our next Director of Music.

This is a new post created for someone who has the passion and drive to ensure music permeates every area of the Academy. We are seeking to appoint a motivational, talented and creative person to lead our highly successful music department.  The role requires high levels of creative talent, personal commitment and inspirational leadership skills to motivate students and staff.

The role of Director of Music is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic person with excellent academic credentials and a passion for music to showcase their ambition by leading the department to the next level. This is a high profile role that will work closely with the leadership team and governors to deliver outstanding music education for our students.

Chelsea Academy is proud to have the generous support of the Bryan Adams Foundation whom subsidises taught instrumental lessons. The Academy also operates a music scholars scheme where 10% of each year group qualify for a bursary to cover music tuition at the Academy. Our music scholars commit to extra music lessons after school and to perform in all of our concerts in and out of the Academy.

Chelsea Academy aspires, over the next five years, to be one of the leading schools in the field of music education.  We have the talented students and the Director of Music will be supported by the leadership team, the governors and the Chelsea Academy Foundation (our fundraising body) to deliver this. You may be a head of department looking for a new challenge or an exceptional music teacher looking for their first promotion, we don’t mind. What we are looking for is someone eager and talented, someone who will develop our students, enhance our choirs and lead our orchestra to success.

Academy Overview

We are currently graded outstanding by Ofsted and SIAMS, a World Class School and are a member of the Leading Edge network. In the summer we achieved our best ever GCSE results in terms of both progress (top 14% nationally) and attainment. However, we are much more than a successful, academically focused school. We believe in educating the whole child and our Christian values of joy, perseverance, servant leadership, charity and forgiveness underpin everything we stand for. It is important that all of our staff, whether they are teachers or not, work closely with our young people and ensure that they are successful in all that they do. We are looking for staff who will always go the extra mile for our young people and believe that education happens both in and out of the classroom.

Chelsea Academy is a great place to work (we are one of the few schools in the country with Investors in People Gold), our staff are friendly and supportive and we offer a whole range of professional development opportunities no matter what stage you are at in your career. We want all of our teachers to be outstanding and so offer unrivalled professional development and support. This includes a CPD session every week (two for newly qualified teachers) and a thriving in house lead practitioner team that coach and support staff across the Academy. We offer internal and external training through NPQML, NPQSL and Teaching Leaders - your professional development is important to us.
