ESF Therapy Centre is part of the developing services highlighted in the ESF Special Educational Needs Strategy.

Responsibilities

Works as part of a small team to deliver an Educational Psychology Service across ESF schools, applying psychological and educational theory and principles in order to maximise the achievement of all young people and to promote inclusion.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Assists schools in the identification and assessment of children who may have special educational needs
  • Provides high quality psychological consultation, assessment and reporting
  • Develops assessment and intervention services within and across ESF schools.
  • Develops and delivers SEN related CPD for teachers and other professionals.
  • Takes a role in supporting the strategic plan for SEN and inclusion across the Foundation.
  • Such other duties, in the context of the post, as may be required by the Inclusion Team Leader.

Requirements

  • An honours degree in psychology or equivalent (eg. which would be acceptable to the British/Australian/Hong Kong Psychological Society for graduate membership).
  • Successful completion of postgraduate professional training in applied educational psychology.
  • A range of experience of working with children and young people of all ages.
  • At least 5 years’ successful experience as a qualified educational psychologist working in an educational setting.
  • Experience of working with children with English as an additional language is desirable.
  • Qualified teacher status and classroom teaching experience is preferable.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work in an effective and productive way
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Professional competence and confidence
  • Ability to meet set targets within a given time.
  • Cantonese speaker desirable but not essential
  • A sound theoretical and practical knowledge of recent thinking in educational psychology, child development and special education.

About English Schools Foundation

The English Schools Foundation (ESF) (www.esf.edu.hk) was established by the Hong Kong Government in 1967 and is the largest education foundation in Asia offering a liberal education through the medium of the English language to children of school age.
