Job overview

‘The best school I’ve ever worked at: the culture, the staff and students, the training, everything!’ (staff member)

‘I was amazed at what a great atmosphere the school exuded, how well turned out the children were and how polite and bright they all seemed’ (visitor)

The Bridge Academy is a truly exceptional school. Our students’ progress is excellent, and our superb personal development offer means that over the last few years, we have been national debating champions, enjoyed a host of sporting successes and won both the Incorporated Society of Musicians Gold Award and the Hackney Mayor’s award for music.

Why choose us?

  • Excellent student behaviour and a highly supportive Senior Leadership Team.
  • An achievement-oriented culture where students work hard and it is cool to be smart.
  • A warm/strict approach, meaning that our high standards do not come at the expense of inclusion.
  • The belief that teaching must be a sustainable profession: clear systems and structures, a sensible approach to feedback and no ‘late-night culture’.

We are seeking to appoint a Facilities Technician who is totally aligned with our values of Hard Work, Integrity and Kindness and completely committed to our mission: to ensure that every student will succeed at a good university or equivalent, thrive in their chosen field and live a great life.

Do you have:

  • Experience of facilities management in a modern building (desirable)?
  • Basic skills and experience in all aspects of building maintenance: joinery, general building work, electrics, plumbing and plant maintenance (advanced skills are desirable but not essential for this role)?
  • Good customer service skills and a can-do attitude?
  • High standards of workmanship and a solution-focused approach?

The successful candidate will assist with the general maintenance of the Academy’s building, ensuring a clean, safe, and secure environment, and provide support and an effective and efficient service to members of staff, students and visitors. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week on a shift basis. Flexibility to work paid overtime outside these hours will be required from time to time. If you are up for the challenge, we would love to hear from you.

Our sponsors, UBS, provide significant support to the Academy, and we also work with a wide variety of community groups to ensure the best for all our students. Our award-winning building is outstanding and is based at our stunning canal-side location, a short walk from Haggerston Station and just over a mile from the heart of the City of London.

To apply for this position, please complete the online application. Please also read our school workforce privacy notice. We encourage applicants from all sectors of the community to apply. We will review applications as they come in and will bring this advert to a close once we are satisfied with the response. We therefore advise all applicants who are interested in this role to apply as soon as they can.

The Bridge Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to the necessary safeguarding checks, including receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check with barred list information.

The Bridge Academy opened in September 2007. We educate 900 students in Years 7-11, and our Sixth Form caters for 250 students in Year 12 – 13. Our specialist subjects, Music and Mathematics, sit alongside a broad and rich curriculum; the school timetable has been designed to ensure that there is room for special projects and enrichment and club activities, working with some of the most prestigious organisations in London. Our sponsors UBS, a leading global financial services firm have led the establishment of our school from the onset and they continue to significantly support us.

We are a school with a simple mission: to ensure that when students leave the Academy every one of them can go on to University or a high quality equivalent, thrive in their chosen field and live a great life. In this way, The Bridge Academy truly is ‘A Bridge to their future’.

We are determined that every child who attends The Bridge Academy has the chance to develop their talents and abilities to the fullest in a culture of respect and exemplary behaviour. We have a first-class team, and learning and teaching is stimulating, exciting and enjoyable.

A lot of time has been invested into working in partnership with local primary schools to create the best possible experience for students moving on to secondary school. It means that our students have had the chance to get to know The Bridge Academy team before they arrive and the team is able to establish links with their parents as part of this. By understanding every child individually, The Bridge Academy ensures that every student receives the highest standard of teaching and support.

Our Academy is an academic, inclusive and inspirational environment where innovative thinking and creativity are encouraged and aspirations are raised. We have unlimited aspirations and a belief that anything is possible, and for this reason we are a centre of excellence for learning.
