Full Time Contract Position (Maternity Leave)

 

Townsville Catholic Education Office is offering a dynamic and challenging opportunity for a Guidance Counsellor/Psychologist.  The successful applicant will be a member of a pastoral and student support team, assisting schools to provide the most appropriate educational experiences for their students.  The position will provide specialist and consultative services to facilitate learning outcomes for students in a number of schools in the western district, as well as the boarding context of the Columba Catholic College.

 

Provisional Psychologists are encouraged to apply.

 

A particular emphasis will be to work collaboratively with the school communities to promote and foster the achievement, participation and development of all students.

 

Essential Characteristics:

 

  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the ethos of the Catholic School
  • Current full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration as a teacher in Queensland, and one year (minimum) full-time (or part-time equivalent) coursework Masters, majoring in guidance and counselling OR
  • Full registration as a psychologist through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Psychology Board of Australia
  • Highly developed inter-personal communication and human relations skills in dealing with a diverse range of students, school staff, parents, community members and professionals from other agencies and organisations
  • Capacity to develop and implement counselling programs and associated strategies and services to support the needs of children with personal, social and emotional needs
  • Capacity to facilitate and perform psycho-educational assessments
  • Capacity for effective management to optimize the achievement of agreed goals
  • Willingness to pursue your own professional development
  • Possession of a current Drivers License and willingness to undertake travel

 

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Professional Membership of Queensland Guidance and Counselling Association (QGCA), or the Australian Psychological Society (APS)
