Job overview

Our beautiful Georgian Manor House sits in the centre of a 9 acre site on the outskirts of Abingdon, about 9 miles south of Oxford and 8 miles north-west of Didcot. The Manor’s spirit, warmth and dynamism have made it thrive for over 100 years.  Our children are delightfully self-confident and articulate and there are many opportunities for everyone to shine.  Above all we strive to ensure that our children develop a love of learning and make the very most of their abilities, encouraging and challenging them to give of their best and to be the best that they can be.

We have a rare opportunity for an outstanding English Teacher or a current Head of English to join our very successful English Department. You will have an in-depth understanding of Common Entrance and Scholarship requirements and will show a commitment to the development of each individual child. A willingness to make a wider contribution to the life of The Manor and be willing to go above and beyond is essential.

How to Apply: All applications should be made via the School website by the closing date, 4pm Monday 30 April 2018.

The Manor Preparatory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Situated in Abingdon, The Manor Preparatory School is an independent, co-educational day school that welcomes children aged 2-11.

The school has a wonderfully happy, creative atmosphere where every individual is valued and nurtured to reach their potential. The Manor’s most recent ISI Inspection saw the school receive the highest possible rating of ‘Excellent’ in all areas. Inspectors commented that “Pupils approach every day with an overwhelming passion to learn and develop.”

This is in part due to the exceptionally caring and invigorating tone of the school, where laughter is an essential part of the school day. Children’s personal development is further strengthened by staff who act as excellent role models.

Every child is encouraged to push themselves to new challenges and fulfil their potential, resulting in outstanding results academically, on the sports field, and in the creative and performing arts.

The school has an excellent record of ensuring leavers move on to the next school that is perfectly suited to each individual. Scholarships, awards and exhibitions feature highly in all areas.
