Job overview

Sidcot School is currently seeking a Head of International Relations to join our community.

Set in rolling Somerset hills, Sidcot School is an independent, co-educational Quaker international boarding school for students aged 3 – 18. Founded in 1699, Sidcot is administered on the Quaker principles of truth, integrity, respect, simplicity, equality, and sustainability. These Quaker practices are an essential part of Sidcot School life, incorporated in the whole of the teaching in the School. Its legacy of enlightened education (Sidcot was one of first co-educational boarding schools in the UK) continues to produce motivated, curious and purposeful young people today.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of International Relations to further Sidcot’s global profile, strategically growing the School’s roll in its boarding markets. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering and developing first-rate relationships with prospective and current parents, students, agents, feeder schools, alumni and staff through the delivery and articulation of Sidcot’s vision, values and ethos.

This role will most likely suit an experienced professional with a proven track record within a customer-services, sales and marketing related context. The successful candidate will have a keen appetite for international travel, coupling entrepreneurial and commercial instincts with the ability to work well as part of a team. Experience of working within an educational environment is not vital for the role, though it will best suit someone with an instinctive feel for the independent boarding market. The successful candidate will relish undertaking and interpreting market analysis to inform strategy. They will be financially literate and target-driven. They will also be dynamic, focused and a sound ambassador for the School in-market.

Sidcot School is a mixed, independent, all-through Quaker school and sixth form for pupils aged three to nineteen. It is located in Winscombe, Somerset, in south-west England, and has about 550 students on its roll.

The school can trace its history back to 1699, when it was founded by Quakers. However, it moved to its current site in 1808.

The school is a registered charity, and is administered by its governing body. At least half of these governors must be members of the Religious Society of Friends.

Values and vision

The school is established on strong Quaker values, and this remains a key part of its ethos today. It places a strong emphasis on mutual respect.

Quakers believe “in living life adventurously and letting their lives speak”. In practice, the school says, that means teaching in a way that encourages individual thought, questioning and exploration. The school also aims to ensure that pupils have all the support they need to grow as individuals, and recognise and celebrated their talents.

The school welcomes students of all faiths and none.

ISI report

“Pupils of all abilities and ages achieve well. They make good progress, exceptional in some cases, enabled by good, often excellent teaching and an excellent curriculum and programme of activities. Many pupils achieve exceptional standards in art.”

“Pupils are good learners, working together with others very successfully and thriving when teaching encourages them to employ their highly developed sense of personal responsibility in their learning.”
