We are looking for a dynamic colleague to be responsible for the day to day management of the Lower School (nursery to Y6), promoting a nurturing environment where pupils thrive and develop a passion to discover and learn.  As a member of the Senior Leadership Team contribute to the strategic development and leadership of the whole school, ensuring an excellent standard of education for all pupils.      

As this is a new post, a key focus will be to manage and co-ordinate the removal of distinctions between the two current separate schools (pre prep and prep) creating an ambitious, warm and successful ‘whole’ Lower School.

Rookwood School is a non-selective day and boarding school providing high quality education for children aged 3 to 16. We are a warm and nurturing community where staff are dedicated to providing the best possible opportunities for all of our pupils. The Application Process

The post of Head of Lower School is for September 2017.  The post attracts a competitive salary. 

Application should include a letter addressed to Dr Mark Whalley, Headmaster, Rookwood School, Weyhill Road, Andover, SP10 3AL. Your letter should be a maximum of two sides of A4 and may be submitted electronically or by post.  It must be accompanied by a completed Application Form including details of at least two referees, and a completed Equal Opportunity Monitoring form.  Please note that while you are welcome to submit a CV in addition to the Application Form, we cannot accept any application which does not include the Application Form completed in full.

Rookwood School is a co-educational, all-through, independent day and boarding school based in Andover, Hampshire, for students aged 3-16. Rookwood was founded in 1934 as a girls’ school; boys were admitted to the preparatory school in 1950 and to the senior school in 2003.

The school has recently expanded its facilities to include a sports hall and additional classrooms. The boarding house consists of two adjoining properties, one for boys and one for girls, located a short walk from the main school site.

Values and vision

Rookwood School has a Christian ethos, which is reflected upon in its regular assemblies. Children of all faiths are actively welcomed. Students are taught that they should give respect to adults and expect to receive respect in return.

The school’s motto, "Sapere Aude", can be translated as "dare to know" or "have courage to understand". Teachers challenge pupils to have the courage to learn new things and to develop new skills.
