The Position

The Head of Primary reports directly to the Director and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. The Head of Primary, working closely with the Head of Secondary and with the Early Years Leader, will seek to promote long-term continuity of approach, educational philosophy and expectation, in line with the school’s mission and vision. Correspondingly, the Head of Primary is expected to implement academic programs and to monitor staff and student performance.

The ideal candidate should:

o   be resilient and resourceful and have a strong commitment to high standards of teaching and learning;

o   be able to lead the continued development of the curriculum from Years 1 to 6 and oversee the work in collaboration with the Early Years Leader;

o   be highly motivated and an excellent classroom practitioner, with the ability to inspire and engage students;

o   be enthusiastic, energetic and committed to children of all abilities;

o   be highly ICT literate and able to contribute to the strategic development of technology within the school including assessment and reporting systems;

o   ensure that the primary areas provide an outstanding extra-curricular activity opportunities for all staff;

o   be able to work with a diverse and multicultural group of teachers with a range of pedagogical experience from an array of international and UK perspectives;

o   be able to inspire others and lead by example and to develop highly effective teams.

o   have excellent listening skills and be able to communicate and connect with parents, teachers and students and be able to develop and maintain trust and respect in all parts of our community.

Key responsibilities will include:

o   To assist the Director in school self-review, evaluation and quality assurance in the effective planning and management of school resources to secure improvements.

o   To play a significant role in setting aims and objectives for the Primary Section while participating in the development of the School Strategic Plan, together with the Director and other senior staff.

o   To coordinate all aspects of the day-to-day administration and organization of the Primary School.

o   To lead the raising of the quality of teaching and learning by monitoring pupils’ work and teachers’ planning and teaching.

o   To lead in raising the quality of teaching and learning by making a significant contribution to the school’s continuing professional development program, delivering CPD and working with individuals and teams in a variety of professional development activities.

o   To inspire, motivate and influence staff and pupils, taking a leading role in maintaining the highest standards of teaching and learning and behaviour management.

o   To take a leading role in the development of the educational use of technology within the School.

o   To be an excellent role model for all members of staff and for pupils in all aspects of school life.

CES VISION - Together Achieving Personal Excellence

Curriculum:

CES teaches the National Curriculum of England and Wales, applying the same educational standards as are offered in England, with modifications attuned to our Egyptian environment. Subjects offered at CES include; English, Mathematics, Science, Art & Design, Music, Geography, History, ICT, PE, Modern Foreign Languages, Design Technology and Personal Social Health Education. English is the language of instruction at CES. Ministry of Education Arabic, Religion and Social Studies are offered from Year 1 and French from Year 3.

CES initially opened from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 9. Year 10 opened in September 2007 and the school offers IGCSE at Year 9 and 10, , A Levels and IB Diploma Programme. is offered in Years 11 and 12 in preparation for university entrance within Egypt, United Kingdom and to other countries.

The curriculum is further enriched by the addition of a Learning Support programme, English as a Second Language and a comprehensive after school extra-curricular programme and a sports teams.

Cairo English School has the physical classroom space to accommodate up to 1800 students, with the building designed to house the students on three levels – Early Years on the ground floor. Primary School on the middle floor and Secondary School on the top floor.
