Job overview

Head of Year

Salary: Grade 11 (£24,658 - £28,222)

Hours: Permanent, Full time

Required for January 2019

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen as Head of Pastoral Care for Years 10 & 11 at Westfield Academy. This is a role, with no teaching commitment, that is pivotal in the schools desire to provide outstanding pastoral care. The successful applicant will initially be responsible for the pastoral care for both years 10 & 11 whilst the current postholder is on maternity leave.  On her return, due to our rising school roll, the post will be split and each postholder will be responsible for the pastoral care of either year 10 or 11.  You will work closely with the Academic Head of Year 10 and the Academic Head of Year 11 to support the learning of vulnerable and challenging students.

You will have experience of working with children who have social emotional and behavioural needs, and you will have good administrative skills and be a team player.  This post would equally suit either an ex teacher or non teacher.

This post is full time and permanent.

About Westfield Academy

Westfield is an 11-16 co-educational school, in Somerset, serving the town of Yeovil and the surrounding villages.  It is a child centred organisation that has exemplary behaviour and an unmatched pastoral system that puts the welfare of students and staff at its core. The academy continues to make a significant impact on the education and welfare of the community in Yeovil. It was judged ‘Good’ by OFSTED in October 2023, 2018 and 2014. Student numbers have grown along with its reputation within the area and we were heavily oversubscribed in the last five year’s intake. There has been significant investment in the site over the last few years, including new sports facilities and Creative Arts spaces. Yeovil is a growing town and the Academy has seen its student numbers increase to 1055 this year.

Westfield Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, including the barred list, as well as other pre-appointment checks outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (September 2023).
