For the ambitious leader who thrives on a challenge and enjoys spearheading change, the Headship of this brand new co-educational, comprehensive secondary school provides a platform for swift, organic career development. It offers a dynamic workplace, a phased increase of responsibility, aligned with the natural growth of the school and the building of its modern learning environments plus sporting facilities on a 25 acre site.

Modern Curriculum

Coombe Wood School is being designed to feature sport as a specialism and to have an emphasis on the creative and performing arts, both aspects will fully integrate with the academic strands. The theoretical and practical nature of sport (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship) underpins our entire ethos across the school and will shape the innovative, unique curriculum. This approach will centre on delivering a narrower range of sports to promote a deeper understanding of core skills and a focus on Health Related Fitness.

Location

The proposed site for the ‘new build’ school is opposite Lloyd Park in South Croydon, with an excellent tramlink from East Croydon station (just 5 minutes journey time away) and a short walk from several bus routes. Over £35 million is to be invested in building a state-of-the-art school which will include enhanced sports facilities, comprising a competition venue within the sports hall, a full-size 3G artificial floodlit surface and aspirations to include a  closed circuit cycle track (CRC) and 8 lane floodlit athletics track.

Growth

To meet a pressing local demand, the school plans to open in September 2018 with 180 students in Y7 and applications received are already double the PAN. The Sixth Form will open  in September 2020 by which time it is intended the permanent building will be fully operational. The School will grow into an 8-form entry school (NOR 1680) including 480 in the Sixth Form. The pupil demographic includes mixed housing and leafy suburbs, interested aspirational parents and a genuinely comprehensive mix of children.

Advantages include:

  • Network of expertise and support through Folio;
  • Outstanding brand new facilities;
  • Opportunity to recruit your new SLT;
  • Supportive catchment with future demand to fill places;
  • Developed sporting partnerships to strengthen community involvement and support educational and vocational aims.
