Rare Leadership Opportunity

Now is the unique time to join a thriving school to oversee its final year of expansion, as we enter a period of consolidating the excellent groundwork at this ‘young’ school. If you enjoy leading a culture of innovation and dedication, are very focussed on ensuring all our students achieve their best, you will find a great team at Coombe Wood who share this goal. Adopting a pioneering approach, Health Related Fitness plays a major part in the overall development of our young people and this extends into the community.

The school is flourishing in its brand new, purpose built £35M facility, built as part of the Free School programme.  Located within 10 hectares of green fields on the edge of a protected woodland in South Croydon, this educational campus is developing new opportunities to maximise the use of these stunning facilities as an ongoing project.

Welcoming our diverse student population into the school’s fifth and final year of natural growth, Coombe Wood is not without its challenges: it continually promotes routines and procedures that enable staff and students to have a safe teaching and learning environment. The staff actively ‘sweat the small stuff’ and have high expectations at all times within every aspect of school life. As a fully inclusive, co-educational school, Coombe Wood is working with the Trust to build a strong and strategic approach to managing the way the school supports and challenges children with special educational needs and disabilities. It is essential that children with SEND and those who are more vulnerable make rapid progress.

As part of Folio Education Trust you will have access to excellent peer and leadership support, plus benefit from the culture of actively encouraging CPD.

If you are an enthusiastic educationalist who is not afraid of challenging conversations and who has the passion and drive to do what it takes to be the best, then Coombe Wood awaits your leadership. Please access further details in the Candidate Pack available for download on

Culture & Ethos

Our Culture and Ethos is rooted within the theory and practice of Health Related Fitness (HRF). The school’s Core Values TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE and SPORTSMANSHIP act as a guiding light for everything the school does. The school IS NOT a sports college but it does choose to ensure 100% participation in developing healthy habits for improved academic success and a longer life expectancy.

Within Folio Education Trust, Coombe Wood is working to create and deliver an all-through Health Related Fitness strategy with aims to ensure all children are given opportunities to play, practice, perform and become ‘Fit for Movement, Fit for Learning and Fit for Life’. In many aspects the Trust’s four schools; Coombe Wood, Park Hill Juniors, St. Peter’s Primary and Wallington County Grammar work closely together, always looking to explore collaborative school improvement strategies and professional development.

Location – South Croydon

Situated in a beautiful parkland setting, with good road access, parking and a near-by Croydon Tramlink stop (Lloyd Park) which is five minutes away from East Croydon Station, the accessibility and surrounding transport infrastructure is excellent. Located within two purpose-built buildings: the Main School is home to subject areas that include a vast number of specialist teaching spaces; in the adjacent Health and Fitness building, there are facilities enjoyed by both students during the day and staff and local residents during evenings, weekends and school holidays.
