About The Banda School

Occupying a 32 acre site adjacent to Nairobi National Park, the Banda School with 450 pupils on roll has an enviable reputation and is situated 14 kilometres from the bustling business centre of Nairobi. It is found in the residential area of Karen and Langata and caters for pupils aged 1 – 13 years. Last inspected in March 2023, The Banda was rated as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas. Founded in 1966 by Mr and Mrs Chitty, The Banda prides itself on a cohesive staff, employed primarily from the UK and Kenya, who work together to achieve outstanding results in all areas of education.

The Banda is non-selective and a leading IAPS school in Kenya (District K). Pupil and staff relationships are excellent as children are motivated, happy, friendly and respectful, with a good work ethic. The pupils' slogan ‘Friends for Life’ was designed by the children themselves to exemplify the character of the school. There is a caring, family atmosphere around the school. The extensive well-kept grounds with excellent facilities allow children great freedom for sporting and recreational pursuits. A purpose built Arts Centre ensures that Creative Arts are always high on the agenda, and the new Wellbeing Centre provides a warm, nurturing environment for pupils and staff. A broad Extra-Curricular programme ensures breadth of opportunity beyond the classroom. Varied travel opportunities are also available within an array of school and social trips and activities, including safaris, climbing Mount Kenya and coast exploration. Housing for some staff is available within the grounds.
