About The Banda School
Occupying a 32 acre site adjacent to Nairobi National Park, the Banda School with 450 pupils on roll has an enviable reputation and is situated 14 kilometres from the bustling business centre of Nairobi. It is found in the residential area of Karen and Langata and caters for pupils aged 1 – 13 years. Inspected in October 2017, The Banda was rated as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas.
Founded in 1966 by Mr and Mrs J.A.L. Chitty, The Banda prides itself on a cohesive staff, employed primarily from the UK and Kenya, who work together to achieve outstanding results in all areas of education.
The Banda is non-selective and a leading IAPS school in Kenya (District K). Pupil and staff relationships are excellent as children are motivated, happy, friendly and respectful with a good work ethic. The pupils slogan ‘Friends for Life’ was designed by the children themselves to exemplify the character of the school. There is a caring, family atmosphere around the school. The Banda is run by a Board of Directors.
Extensive, well-kept grounds with excellent facilities spread over the 20 acre playing fields allow children great freedom for recreational pursuits. Within this area there is an athletics track, three rugby pitches, eight hockey pitches, eight netball courts, four cricket pitches, two glass-backed squash courts and a multi-purpose Astroturf playing area comprising of 3 tennis courts, two netball courts and a hockey/football pitch. The Banda also has an outdoor six lane 25 metre heated swimming pool. Full use is made of the environment. Some staff housing is safely incorporated within the school grounds.
Varied travel opportunities are available within an array of school and social trips and activities, including safaris, climbing Mount Kenya and coast exploration.
