Job overview

Ark Walworth Academy and Ark Globe Sixth Form

Our school sixth forms are at an exciting stage in their development, as we continue to develop a shared vision for outstanding KS5 provision with a simple focus: we aim to ensure that all our Year 13 leavers are able to progress to good universities, or directly into an aspirational career of their choice.
We are looking for an outstanding KS5 Physics Lead Practitioner to deliver high quality A level lessons across both schools. You will ensure high attainment of pupils through outstanding teaching and learning within the department and demonstrate experience of teaching at KS5, as well as the drive to make a difference to the lives and futures of our students.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • be an outstanding teacher, able to motivate and challenge learners of all abilities
  • have experience of teaching at A Level
  • have a proven track record of success, and raising pupil attainment in physics
  • have some experience of leading and coaching others
  • exude a passion for the subject which is evident in your day to day classroom practice
  • demonstrate high levels of ambition and optimism regarding what the academy and its students can achieve
  • have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of pupils
  • be committed to Bolingbroke Academy’s ethos of high expectations and no excuses.

As a teacher at Ark Walworth and Ark Globe, you will be part of Ark, an international charity and one of the UK's most successful multi-academy trusts, with a network of 35 schools in 4 locations across the country.  Benefits of being part of the Ark network include:

  • Access to an extensive CPD programme
  • The chance to network with other KS5 subject leaders within our schools
  • A salary 2.5% higher than the main scale teacher salaries
  • Twice as many training days as standard and network-wide events with Ark colleagues, held by the best minds in education

About Ark Walworth Academy

At Ark Walworth Academy, we believe in the immense potential of each of our pupils and we are committed to giving them every possible opportunity to succeed. Every student should leave the academy with real choices: to continue into further and higher education or pursue the career of their choice. Ark Walworth Academy has been recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academy Trust for being one of the top 10 schools for value added in terms of 5 A*-C (including English and maths) improvement in the country.

Community

The Walworth community is a thriving and exciting one in the heart of London, providing unique opportunities for our students which we aim to explore both inside and outside the classroom. We are proud of the diversity of opportunity such a rich community provides us with, both in terms of academic pathways and enrichment opportunities, and we seek to maximise this for all within the Walworth Academy family of learners.

At Ark Walworth, our goal is to ensure our students go on to be successful adults, enabled to take up their place in the world, and confident in facing the challenges and opportunities that may bring. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of children who are excited and motivated by that prospect.

Aims, Vision and Values

The academy has high expectations for pupil behaviour and achievement and equally high expectations for the quality of teaching in the classroom. This means a common commitment to creating a respectful and orderly environment where teachers can teach and students can learn.

Ark Walworth Academy recognises the need to support every child – academically, socially and emotionally. Through a combination of rigorous and engaging classes and a variety of learning experiences outside of the classroom, students can enjoy the full range of opportunities.

The academy is shaped by its culture of inclusion and mutual respect, which encourages a close working relationship between students and staff. The academy is working hard to provide an inspirational and secure environment which recognises and celebrates success whilst challenging students to realise their full potential.

Ark Walworth Academy CARES

Commitment Maximum effort in everything you do – all the time with no excuses

Aspiration Always strive to be better, constantly reaching beyond your limits

Excellence Be the best you can be every day. Have pride and confidence in your success

Curriculum

Ark Walworth Academy's approach is “depth for breath”: the benefits of a broad curriculum depend on a sound foundation. Pupils are expected to reach or exceed their expected year level in English and mathematics as soon as possible. They believe passionately that this provides a strong foundation for every other subject and is critical for success at school and in life.

To achieve this, Ark Walworth Academy offers individualised support and gives all pupils access to a range of qualifications. Those making rapid progress have opportunities for early entry to exams. Where appropriate, pupils spend time in smaller groups or nurture classes that focus on numeracy and literacy.

You can find out more about our approach to curriculum here.

Ofsted

Walworth Academy was inspected by Ofsted in January 2018 and was graded as "good". You can read the full report here.
