The Manager, Marketing and Communications is a senior leadership position within the Townsville Catholic Education Office (TCEO) and is responsible for supporting the role of TCE in promoting the mission of the Church. The position is charged with leading the development of TCE’s brand, marketing and communications strategies and overseeing their translation into system-wide campaigns and individual school-level strategies, plans and campaigns with the ultimate aim of supporting school growth and improvement within the broader mission of TCE.

As a senior member of TCEO, the role holder has a responsibility to contribute to all major initiatives of the Office and to advance the priorities of the Statement of Directions and Annual Strategic Actions.

The position has primary responsibility for working with the Executive Director to lead the strategic positioning of the organisation’s, and to ensure resourcing and specialist advice in communications.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development of TCE’s brand, marketing, communications strategies in collaboration with leaders across the organisation.
  • Provide specialised advice to the Executive Team regarding the strategic positioning of TCE’s profile in the sector and the community, and the key external and internal communications messages for building this profile.
  • Lead and coordinate “customer experience” activities to develop consistent approaches to continuously improving services to students and families across the system.
  • Plan and commission the collection of data through market research and other appropriate means to  inform communications and marketing policy, strategic directions, resourcing and specialist professional support needs across TCE.
  • Lead the development of marketing and communications capability across TCE schools and the Office.
  • Provide leadership and strategic assistance to schools and TCEO employees in relation to marketing and communications matters.
  • Provide communications leadership in a range of circumstances including media relations (as the organisation’s official media spokesperson), critical incident management, organisational branding and reputation management both within and beyond TCE.
  • Ensure resources to support communications are deployed in the best possible way in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, and provide oversight for quality control of all documentation, website, social media sites and publications.
  • Establish and manage relationships and engagements with third party vendors to ensure the provision of consistent, high quality support in line with TCE standards and schools’ needs.
  • Provide research and communications assistance to the Executive Director.

About you

Experience

  • Significant experience leading a marketing and communications function within a dynamic and maturing environment.
  • Considerable experience in a managerial or senior advisory position with a whole-of enterprise remit in a complex organisation.
  • Highly developed project and consultant management experience, underpinning timely development of strategies, projects and programs to assist cross functional collaboration.
  • Proven experience in managing and applying best practice principles to assist the development and delivery of strategies, initiatives, programs, policy and procedures for management and marketing of organisational goals and objectives, including monitoring and reporting on outcomes.
  • A demonstrated commitment to internal and external stakeholders within an organisation evidenced through the provision of timely, reliable and expert advice.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated deep understanding of the Australian P-12 education market, particularly in the North Queensland region, and the role of the Catholic Education sector in this market.
  • Proven ability to successfully lead, influence and develop people in an evolving work environment.
  • Decision making capability that demonstrates an understanding of stakeholders and organisation needs.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships and consult, negotiate and communicate with all levels of management and employees, stakeholders and the community.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, motivate and influence others towards common organisational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify key issues and present recommendations in a concise, logical and confident manner.

Skills

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including an ability to build productive networks both across and outside an organisation.
  • Demonstrated exemplary professional judgment and an ability to establish a well-balanced perspective on complex commercial issues in a challenging market environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to leverage economic and demographic data, along with other sources of evidence, to inform and refine effective marketing strategies and plans.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills with a high focus on attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with colleagues in a professional, informed, flexible and caring manner.
  • Well-developed capacity for creative and strategic thinking in the areas of problem-solving and future directions.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card or eligibility to obtain same.
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification – i.e. Business, Commerce, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or similar.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
