Job overview

We are delighted to be recruiting for an additional full time teacher of Mathematics to join our exceptional department.

This is a thriving department. We have an exceptionally high uptake of students onto our A level courses. We consistently get 40+ students starting our AS Maths course in September and a strong uptake for Further Maths year on year.  Most teachers have opted to undertake the teaching of A level mathematics as part of their teaching commitment.

Results

Results in the Mathematics department compare very favourably to National averages, even within an area where Grammar schools select the most able students. Mathematics is a confident and progressive department.

Curriculum

We teach the full range of abilities and year groups from year 7 to 13. Courses are summarised below:

Key Stage 3 Students are set following their Key Stage 2 results and through an internal assessment and we follow the National Curriculum. This has been revised to match the needs of the new curriculum. The scheme of work has been split into half termly modules so that all Key Stage 3 and 4 groups cover similar material at the same time.  This gives teachers the opportunity to share ideas and resources.  At Key Stage 3, there is a greater emphasis on numeracy and problem solving.

GCSE All students will be taking the Edexcel Linear GCSE at the end of Year 11.

We also run a GCSE course in Statistics and Further maths and are expanding into Economics and Finance

Post 16 A/AS Mathematics (OCR)

A/AS Further Mathematics (OCR)

GCSE re-sit (Edexcel)

Staffing

We have a full complement of mathematics teaching staff, with several members of the department currently holding senior positions within the department and wider school. Ongoing training is given through departmental meetings and INSET in order to develop a variety of teaching and learning strategies. The department works well together and are keen to share resources and ideas.

Accelerated Development and Career Progression

The quality, strength and depth of experience within the department has meant an accelerated promotion program has been possible. NQTs are often given roles and responsibilities within the department and have had the opportunity to become members of a collegiate leadership approach within Maths. The number of outstanding practitioners makes this Department the ideal place for new teachers or teachers at the start of their careers to flourish and grow.
