Job overview

Focus Learning Trust is part of the OneSchool global network, one of the most extensive and progressive networks of schools and educational support services in the world. With affiliates in eighteen countries sharing the same OneSchool vision and aims for nearly 10,000 students, our professional leaders are benefiting from global collaboration with results that speak for themselves. Focus was established as a registered charity in 2003 for the advancement of education, first and foremost providing leadership and support to its network of UK independent schools.

We are currently looking to recruit a highly professional Teacher of Business Studies. The ability to teach a second A-Level subject in Law or Accounting would also be highly desirable (but not essential). The successful candidate will work within a supportive team of other subject specialist teachers using cutting-edge technologies.

Based in our headquarters in Warwick, you will be responsible for delivering a high quality education in Business Studies to post-16 students in our 27 campuses across the UK (of which 250 pupils learn in the virtual campus.) This will be delivered via video conference, virtual learning environment and other online and digital media. There will be occasional opportunity to meet the students face to face, and regularly communicate with them by VLE, online forum and email.

This self-directed style of teaching and learning involves the use of pre-recorded video lessons as well as live video conferencing in multi-endpoint, small group and one to one scenarios. The emphasis is on a flipped approach. The monitoring of student progress, and timely provision of appropriate feedback and individual support, in both a reactive and pro-active manner is regarded as essential to ensuring the success of students.

This role offers teachers an opportunity to become world class practitioners in a global educational organisation who are leading the way in cutting-edge practices.

The successful applicant will:

  • be an enthusiastic and well qualified teacher with a track record of raising achievement for all students
  • be able to support students in reaching their full potential by, amongst other things, employing a range of pedagogical approaches
  • be actively interested in self-directed learning and open to different learning approaches, including video conferencing and use of a Virtual Learning Environment
  • be proficient in the use of ICT for learning
  • have the ability and appropriate experience to teach A Level Business Studies.
  • have the ability to teach a second A-Level subject in Law or Accounting - desirable not essential.
  • respect the school’s ethos, aims and values
  • enjoy being part of a supportive and progressive team
  • be willing to engage in continued professional development
  • hold QTS or be prepared to achieve this in the very near future
  • be eligible to work in the UK

In return we offer:

  • an excellent working environment with good resources
  • a professional team culture
  • motivated students who are keen to excel
  • a unique parental and community degree of support
  • the opportunity to enhance your teaching experience through continued professional development

Focus Learning Trust seek to promote excellence in education and enjoy outstanding student achievement, engagement and behaviour in the schools they manage reflecting a Christian ethos and values.

Who are we?

Focus Learning Trust was established as a registered charity in 2003 for the advancement of education, primarily providing leadership and support to its network of 23 UK, non-selective, independent schools which are registered as schools with a religious character, following the national curriculum.

We are part of the OneSchool Global network – one of the most extensive and progressive networks of schools and educational support services in the world. With schools in 20 countries worldwide, our 9000 students are benefiting from the amazing results of global collaboration and cutting-edge educational methods.

In April 2019, the entire OneSchool entity rebranded globally, hence our new look and our name change from Focus School to OneSchool Global UK. This better reflects our teaching and learning strategy and makes us truly one global school.

With over 20 years of experience in delivering innovative and challenging education to students of all abilities, we are committed to achieving the highest levels of teaching from our staff and academic potential from our students.

OneSchool is a dynamic, global high-achieving education provider which challenges learning norms and fosters a positive learning culture.

We develop critical thinkers who engage, not only in a variety of on-request learning experiences to facilitate collaborative problem solving but also leadership skills to see and lead with integrity through tomorrow’s challenges.

A shared language of learning underpins a culture in which learning is personalised and progress is measured and celebrated.

As an employer of choice, we continuously develop staff through the OneSchool Teacher Academy, which enables career pathways through global professional collaboration.

Calling creative and innovative teachers who want to take the challenge outside the norms of the traditional classroom...

Teacher Academy

OneSchool is making a significant contribution to career progression and professional development in independent education. Our focus is on recruiting, training and retaining, with innovations such as the Teacher Academy raising the bar in all areas. Teachers are drawn from both the state and independent sectors and the breadth of cultural and professional diversity is evident in the cross-section of staff from entirely diverse ethnic backgrounds and faiths.

We value and support our staff and work with NQT and NPQH schemes to ensure they get the status and qualifications they need and deserve. Of the 1,600 dedicated educational professionals employed globally, over 500 work in the UK in close cooperation, sharing best practice, professional learning opportunities and resources.

The development of learning and teaching in OneSchool campuses, including the use of the fully inclusive classroom, a differentiated curriculum and the pursuit of the self-directed learning pathway, has created an opportunity for the creative and innovative teachers who want to take the challenge outside the norms of the traditional classroom.

As a result, we are experiencing high job satisfaction and excellent student outcomes.

Located centrally in the Midlands, the Teacher Academy space encourages questioning, discussion, enquiry and reflection that builds a culture of professional development.

Educators all over the world recognise the need for continuous growth and professional development and the value of doing this as a community of learners. Teachers throughout the network complete regular Assignments – like those they prepare for their students – that will support and deepen their professional practice and understanding, promote collaboration, and develop a rich pool of shared professional resources.

OneSchool Global UK offer 100 hours of CPD per year which includes inset days, targeted professional development and Teacher Academy Programmes and enables our teachers to:

  • Experience self-directed learning in a 21st Century professional learning environment
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team on a common area of interest
  • Test new ideas to improve student learning, progress and attainment
  • Develop personal and professional competencies, linking, where possible, to performance management targets
  • Have opportunity to develop an area for enquiry/action research
  • Actively support and contribute to the realisation of the OneSchool Global Vision for Learning

Mission, Vision & Values
