Job overview

Principal

The Boulevard Academy

Competitive salary to attract the best

Following the retirement of the Principal in August 2018, trustees are seeking to appoint a new leader to The Boulevard Academy: someone passionate, inspirational, and visionary; to lead education and continue to make a sustained difference at our academy as it enters the next stage of its development.

The Boulevard Academy is a popular, 11 – 16 academy in Hull with just over 600 students on roll which opened in September 2013, on the site of Hull FC’s former Boulevard ground. Many families committed themselves to the Academy long before it was open, demonstrating their desire for the provision of a high-quality education in this locality for their children. From the outset, our goal has been to create an inclusive school which reflects these high expectations and aspirations.

Boulevard was judged outstanding in May 2015, just two years after opening. We are well-respected locally and regionally, with proven practice and provision at all levels. Our curriculum challenges and inspires staff and students alike. We are hungry for further innovation and development and our new leader will take these strong foundations and grow even more success at The Boulevard Academy.

We demand the very highest standards from all members of our community and in return we offer an exceptional opportunity for an exceptional leader to play a key role in the next phase of the Academy’s development. You will ensure our habit of excellence continues and as our new leader, you will respond to the challenges of the sector in partnership with trustees and stakeholders, positioning the academy as the provider of choice in the local area and beyond. You will be a visible and visionary leader, with the gravitas and credibility to motivate and inspire all those involved in our work. You will bring a proven track record, with the drive to ensure sustained success of the academy and positive outcomes for all our students.

For an informal (and confidential) discussion or to arrange a visit, please contact Jo Fish or Rachel Singer, our recruitment partners at Navigate, on 0113 287 8445. To find out more and for information on how to apply, visit www.leadboulevard.co.uk.

  • Closing date for applications is Midday on 9th May 2018.
  • Final interviews will take place on 22nd and 23rd May 2018.

The Boulevard Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and to the equality of opportunity and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check along with other relevant employment checks.

Located on the site of the former Hull FC Stadium on The Boulevard in West Hull we moved into our brand new, purpose-built Academy in September 2013. Following our approval to expand we will ultimately cater for 900 students aged between 11 and 16. The academy serves students from across the city and we are proud to serve the community of West Hull.

Our mission:

“To work with all our students to assist them to develop the high expectations, academic and life skills that will best help them to be successful. Fostering personal confidence and happiness, we will challenge students to take responsibility for building a better world for the next generation.”

To make this a reality we will:

  • Ensure every child achieves, no matter what their starting point.
  • Set high expectations and create a culture of success to ensure the best outcomes for all.
  • Ensure our teaching delivers academic achievement across a range of subjects as well as developing a positive attitude to succeed in all students.
  • Provide all students with a learning plan based on frequent assessment, monitoring and data analysis.
  • Have an expectation that all parents and students participate fully in the school experience and actively support the school in its mission.
  • We will select only the best staff to work with and for our students because the right people make the difference.
  • Demonstrate the joy of learning and the importance of community.

We believe that this approach will best enable our students to leave the academy well equipped in the ‘life skills’ that they will need to be successful in whatever pathway they choose.

Joining us

By joining us at The Boulevard Academy you will be joining us as we have just received approval to expand our school and its buildings. The plans for this expansion include new music and drama facilities; technology rooms for practical and digital studies as well as more general teaching classrooms; a new staff area and a Learning Resource area. Our vision can only be realised by recruiting exceptional colleagues, who can make a purposeful and lasting impact on the community we serve.

We are looking for inspirational and innovative teachers and support staff with creativity and drive, who will make a real difference to all the young people who attend our academy. Staff will have the opportunity to accelerate their own career, working closely with Senior Leaders to shape lasting change.

If this opportunity to be part of our exciting new phase enthuses you, then we want to hear from you.
