Reporter (Maternity Cover)

TES is a looking for an experienced news and features journalist with investigative flair and fresh ideas to take on this education reporting role on our award-winning magazine and ever-expanding website.

What you’ll do

This an exciting opportunity for an accomplished and ambitious journalist to demonstrate their ability on the national stage working for education’s most respected publication. 

Your role will be to dig out education exclusives good enough to set the national news agenda; write colourful, engaging features; and deliver hard-hitting ground-breaking analysis pieces that get to grips with national policy.

You will be adept at using social media to raise our profile, publicise your work, find stories, and develop and nurture contacts. You will also been keen to build our audience by working through different platforms such as Facebook live and podcasts.

The job will be stretching but rewarding and will require initiative, efficiency and versatility.

You will be required to produce accurate attention-grabbing web stories extremely quickly to ensure we are first online with breaking news.

At the same time we will expect you to get out into schools, and to have the determination and patience to deliver excellent long form investigations and features.  

Who you are

You should have at least two years’ experience as a journalist on a respected newspaper, magazine or website. You will have a strong track-record in breaking exclusive news stories good enough to run in the nationals, producing irresistible digital copy, and writing entertaining features.

You will either have recent experience of covering school-based education or have the ability to get to grips with a fascinating but hugely varied and complicated patch from a standing start.

You will combine an enormous capacity for hard work with a bottomless pit of original ideas, investigative flair and an excellent news sense.

You will need to be adaptable, flexible and creative; and have the drive and commitment to contribute to a close-knit team. 

We would expect candidates to have an NCTJ or equivalent qualification and to be educated to degree level, but will be most interested in an applicant's track record as a journalist.
