St Teresa's College, Abergowrie is a Catholic secondary boy's boarding college. Located in an ideal rural setting in the heart of the Herbert River Valley, the College is approximately 30 km northwest of Ingham and situated on Warrgamay land. The main industries are sugarcane, forestry and cattle. Abergowrie is close to Wallaman Falls which is the highest single-drop waterfall in Australia and the beautiful Broadwater National Park.

About the role

St. Teresa's College, Abergowrie is seeking Residential Supervisors to commence as soon as practicable on a casual/relief basis.

The Residential Supervisor is responsible for St. Teresa’s College residential matters affecting the residential life of the students under the direction of the Head of House.  The Residential Supervisor is responsible for the administration and development of a philosophy of residential life that will contribute to the faith development of the students who reside at St. Teresa’s College. 

The Residential Supervisor will work as part of a team led by the Director of Boarding and make a positive contribution to the life of the Boarding community by being a strong role model with the provision of appropriate duty of care.

Key Accountabilities

The Residential Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day care of the residential students of St. Teresa’s College and will:

  • Ensure efficient organisation and administration of residential systems and procedures to maintain a positive, clean, safe and well-maintained environment for the boarders of St. Teresa’s
  • Provide and support effective communication systems with students, parents, boarding staff and community
  • Support, supervise and promote student involvement in, and commitment to extra-curricular and boarding programs and excursions 
  • Educate students in regard to personal hygiene, health, safety and dress standards
  • Ensure responsibility and diligence for the day-to-day running of the residential boarding and dining room in accordance with daily schedules
  • Provide generalist administration support and maintain accurate records in accordance with systems and processes
  • Oversee and monitor the departure and return of students on weekend leave in accordance with existing routines, methods, and procedures

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by the Queensland Government
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate, or ability to undertake within 1 month of employment
  • Current Driver’s Licence and the ability to obtain an LR or MR licence
  • Commitment to undertake and successfully ABSA Book 1 and 2 within 12 months
  • Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience in a boarding or residential environment
  • Current Bus License (MR) or ability to obtain equivalent or higher
  • Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety
  • Previous experience working with youth.
