Job overview

You will hold primary responsibility for managing, responding to, and forwarding safeguarding concerns about the students of Leeds West Academy and for putting in place procedures to safeguard students in the academy.

General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns which relate to the well-being of a young person.
  • Liaise with the Vice Principal for Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare about issues which arise.
  • Act as a source of support, advice and expertise to staff on matters of safeguarding and when deciding whether to make a referral by liaising with relevant agencies.
  • Liaise with primary feeder schools to ensure smooth transition for children who are currently working with multi-agencies
  • Encourage a culture of listening to young people taking in to account their wishes and feelings so that measures may be put in place to protect them
  • Raise awareness of the role of the Safeguarding Officer with the academy’s young people, parents, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Attend and participate in Child Protection conferences and Planning and Review meetings whilst working closely with colleagues in Children’s Services/the Local Safeguarding Board as required, some of which may take place outside of normal working hours.
  • Co-ordinate referrals to multi-agencies and, where appropriate, act as the lead in professionals’ meetings.

Leeds West is a co-educational, non-denominational 11-16 secondary in the city’s district of Bramley. The school is a member of the White Rose Academies Trust. There are currently approximately 1,300 students on the school roll. The school is located near Summerfield Primary School and Stanningley Park. The school offers an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities from martial arts to chess. The school is also sponsored by Leeds City College.
