OLA is an independent Catholic coeducational day school just outside Oxford.  Small class sizes, excellent academic results and a warm, friendly ethos make OLA a highly attractive environment in which to teach.  

A patient, tolerant Counsellor with an excellent understanding of the development, emotional, social and educational issues of children and young people is required to provide a counselling service to senior school pupils at OLA. Working one day per week, priorities will be established via regular meetings with the Deputy Head and individual meetings with Year Tutors (Heads of Year).  The ideal candidate will be qualified to Post-Graduate Diploma or Masters level in Counselling or Psychotherapy. The ideal candidate:

  • Post-graduate diploma or Masters level in Counselling or Psychotherapy
  • Accredited and registered member of BACP, UKCP, NBPC or equivalent organisation
  • Minimum of two years’ post qualification experience
  • Knowledge of local mental health issues and the CAMHS service in Oxfordshire
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Patient, friendly and approachable
  • An interest in ongoing professional development
  • An understanding of, and sensitivity to, the school ethos.

Abingdon-on-Thames is an historic, modern market town situated eight miles south of Oxford, with its world renowned reputation as a centre of academic excellence. The town has undergone recent development to upgrade the central shopping area providing a selection of restaurants, cafes and bars situated a just few minutes walk away from the river and gardens of Abbey Meadows. The town supports a mixed international community and has excellent bus links to Oxford, which is just a 15 minute ride away and provides a wealth of social and cultural opportunities.
