Oliver House School is an independent school part of the Priory Group under the Education & Children Services.

We are currently recruiting for a School Kitchen Assistant for One year Maternity Cover.

The school currently caters for approximately 20-30 children and young people with autism and challenging behaviour between the ages of 7-19 years, supported by approximately 40 staff.                                                                     

All of the children and young people at Oliver House School have a hot meal offering with a range of dietary requirements.

As a School Kitchen Assistant you will need to have a friendly approach and the ability to communicate with children of all ages, as you will be main point of contact for the children & young people and staff during service.

You must be able work well under pressure and be able to follow instruction accurately regarding dietary requirements. 

It is important you are flexible and can adapt to the needs of the young people.

The successful individual will assist with the preparation, cooking and presentation of the food.

There will also be some administrative tasks to ensure that relevant paperwork for the kitchen is kept up to date and that all health and safety legislation is adhered to.

The successful candidate must have a ‘can do attitude’ to the role with a focus that the young people’s needs come first.

The successful candidate will work closely with and be directed by the School Cook and report to the School Business Manager.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of food hygiene requirements
  • Some previous experience of working in a catering environment.
  • An understanding of health and safety at work, particularly with regard to catering
  • Experience serving meals for large groups in a pressured environment.
  • Knowledge of food allergies and special dietary requirements

Oliver House School is a specialist day and residential school for boys and girls aged 6 to 19 who have mild, moderate and severe autistic spectrum conditions and associated learning difficulties. Children may also have challenging behaviour as a result of their difficulties and their lack of social understanding.

Oliver House School delivers the highest level of education and care according to individual need in a safe, positive and structured environment in which every pupil is encouraged to achieve the best possible academic, social and vocational outcomes.

Many of the pupils at Oliver House School may have been out of education for considerable periods of time which is why we make it our aim to encourage our pupils to be happy to attend school on a daily basis, with the help and support of our dedicated team of staff.

Placements can either be on a day, residential or respite basis for up to 52 weeks of the year depending on individual need. All of the young people referred to the school will have a Statement of Special Educational Need. Oliver House School can provide places for up to 40 pupils.
