Job overview

We have made rapid progress since 2012 and are a transformed Academy with dramatically improved outcomes for our students. The percentage of students achieving 5 A*-C passes including English and Mathematics doubled from 2012 to 2013; and our 2014 results were higher still, standing at 70%, a record high for the Academy. Our 2015 results show that our student progress continues to be outstanding.

The City of London Academy Islington was judged by OFSTED in March 2014 to be a ‘Good’ school overall with Leadership and management graded as ‘Outstanding’. The achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils, were all individually graded as ‘Good’. Clear and crucial ongoing improvements are being made to secure our students’ future here at the Academy and we are determined to continue to improve to an ‘outstanding’ judgement at the next Ofsted inspection.

In order to help deliver this vision we are now looking to appoint an excellent practitioner of Art and Technology and outstanding leader, who is committed to ensuring children are supported to achieve and enjoy learning to the best of their ability.

The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in supporting the Art and Technology Departments.

We offer a comprehensive professional development programme, which includes induction; an “Aspirant Outstanding Practitioner Programme”; a Masters cohort; bursary scholarships; and opportunities to benefit from Academy to Academy partnership.

We have two exceptional sponsors, The City of London Corporation, and the City University who have first class track records in supporting education in urban areas and who are part of a shared vision and determination to deliver success. The Academy building was completed in 2010; facilities and resources are outstanding.

This is a full-time position.

The City of London Academy, Islington is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

Our Ofsted 2014 reads:-

  • “Students’ behaviour in lessons and around the Academy is calm and polite”;
  • “Attainment is rapidly rising. The proportion of students obtaining five or more GCSE grades A* to C including English and Mathematics has nearly doubled in the last year”;
  • “In the words of a number of those associated with the Academy, the Principal provides ‘inspirational’ leadership. The whole community feels that the vision of an outstanding Academy is becoming a reality.”
