Interested in special needs and swift career progression? Career pathway with potential for ambitious teachers

Ambitious, forward-thinking, flexible and self-motivated? If you can combine these attributes with a sound background (or significant interest) in SEN and excellent teaching skills, this is the unique time to join the pioneering teaching staff at Coombe Wood School.

The role would suit an experienced SENCO, a teacher with some level of practical SEND work, or a teacher simply with a very keen desire to work within SEND. The role would provide an interesting challenge and build on the excellent groundwork completed in our first year. With scope to develop the role, additional training will be offered where required.

Your role falls within a specialist area managing a team of TAs and a SEN Admin Assistant, as well as supporting our SEND students.

School Background

As this new school expands year on year this is a unique time to establish your career with a clear development path ahead. The successful candidate will build on the remit developed in our opening year, and help to further embed the newly-established but evident ethos arising from our core values of TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE and SPORTSMANSHIP. This role also offers scope for innovation and creativity to overcome unexpected challenges and break fresh ground.  With the support from our enthusiastic, hardworking and dedicated staff, you will be encouraged to promote and build excellent teaching skills. There is a strong team spirit which has contributed to a supportive learning environment for both staff and students.

Career progression is actively encouraged and taken seriously across the Trust. By becoming part of the team at Coombe Wood School, your career will benefit from joining a future-focussed group of schools, where you have the advantages of natural advancement and professional development opportunities within the school - and potentially within Folio Education Trust: This is a local collaboration of schools offering access to high calibre CPD which contributes to the recognised quality of learning within our schools.

The future includes opening our Sixth Form and moving into the permanent state-of–the-art £35M building. The School will grow into an 8-form entry school (NOR 1680) including 480 in the Sixth Form; an increasing number of pastoral and curriculum responsibilities will be on offer.

You will have creative input into meeting and delivering learning across all subjects, in preparation for learning within the themes of the three main educational strands: Sport and Health Related Fitness, Creative and Performing Arts, Academic Studies.

This is a new secondary fully-inclusive co-educational school, serving the communities of South and Central Croydon, established to meet an urgent rising local demand. Initially housed in temporary accommodation, the adjacent site for the ‘new build’ school is opposite Lloyd Park in South Croydon, with an excellent Tramlink service to and from East Croydon station (just 5 minutes’ journey-time away) and a short walk from several bus routes. Over £35 million is to be invested in building a state-of-the-art school which will include enhanced sports facilities, comprising a competition-sized sports hall, a full-size 3G artificial floodlit surface and aspirations to include a closed circuit cycle track (CRC) and 8-lane floodlit athletics track.
