Job overview
The role
We are seeking to appoint a qualified SENDCo who is able to lead on the provision of SEN & pupil support. The candidate will need to have a great passion and interest for working with pupils who need the support to develop their learning abilities and to be able to build a good rapport with the parents, staff and pupils.
Main Responsibilities:
- To lead and provide input at SEN Department.
- To deal with the day-to-day running of the SEN Department.
- To represent the SEN Department at relevant working parties and meetings.
- Lead by example and act as a strong role model to pupils and staff.
- To organise the Teaching Assistant timetables and cover.
- To liaise with external agencies, including the Educational Psychologist and the Speech and Language consultant.
- To carry out SEN Support Plan review meetings and update the SEN Support Plans.
- To maintain an up to date record of pupil interventions in the SEN provision map.
- To complete relevant paperwork for pupils requiring access arrangements, liaising with the agencies involved and ensuring that relevant arrangements are applied for and evidenced.
- To be the lead practitioner for Mental Health.
- To lead on our Looked After Children and EAL pupils.
- It would be useful but not essential to be trained as a DSL.

About our School
Thomas More Catholic School exists to provide an academic, spiritual, sporting, creative and inclusive education for all of the children who attend our school. The school is underpinned by gospel values such as love, faith, charity and hope and the greatest of these is always love – of Jesus Christ our Lord, of one another and oneself. The school is attended by children between the ages of 11 and 19 years. A school and orphanage was opened on this site in 1868 with the Catholic Church opening the school as we now know it in 1962. We have about 850 children on roll.
Thomas More Catholic School is set on an extensive site with an atmospheric older building and extensive grounds which are used for our sporting activities. Our facilities are hired by the local community in the evenings and weekends (the swimming pool and sports hall are used by local swimming clubs and sports clubs) and our football pitches are hired for Sunday morning football. We also share the grounds with one of our feeder primary schools, Margaret Roper Primary School.
