Job overview

Specialist Teacher required to work within our Enhanced Learning Provision.

Competitive salary, subject to experience

Initially this position is fixed term for 1 year to cover Maternity leave, however, this could lead to a permanent position for the right candidate.

PASSION – URGENCY- POSITIVITY- ASPIRATION - COMMITMENT

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Enhanced Learning Provision, which provides specialist teaching for 18 children with Developmental Language Disorder. We are looking for an established teacher with a record of strong practice and experience of working in either a primary and/or Early Years setting. Applications are welcome from enthusiastic, outstanding teachers currently working in a specialist setting or mainstream teachers with a passion for SEN. All candidates must have a commitment to professional development.

Our Enhanced Learning Provision is an integral part of our school, providing specialist programmes of support for children from Reception through to Year 6 from across Croydon who have been diagnosed Developmental Language Disorder. The teachers and speech and language therapists work collaboratively to plan and deliver specialist, personalised programmes which integrate therapy and teaching. Pupils have the opportunity to work within the provision, and also spend a proportion of their time with their mainstream class. Most of the children join the provision with very limited language skills and it is highly rewarding to see many of these children successfully return to a mainstream setting after a period of time.

Applegarth Academy is part of the STEP Academy Trust (Striving Together for Excellence in Partnership) and continues on an exciting, fast-paced journey of school improvement. We are a Rights Respecting School and put the children at the heart of all decision making.  In joining the Enhanced Learning Provision, you will become part of our team of highly committed professionals working across the Academy and be involved in the wider aspects of school life as well as those that are specific to the Enhanced Learning Provision.

Applegarth has excellent transport links; with the tramline into Croydon, just a few minutes’ walk away. Central London and the outskirts of the M25 are then just a short train journey away. We are a 10-minute car journey from the centre of Croydon.

Visits are essential and you are welcome to contact us for an informal discussion about this post prior to application.

Together we will achieve

Each of the schools within STEP Academy Trust has a unique character and Applegarth is no exception.

Applegarth Academy is a happy two-form entry primary school on the outskirts of Croydon. We have very high expectations and expect our children to make the best possible progress across the curriculum and beyond.

How we work

As a STEP Academy, our values – Passion, Urgency, Positivity, Aspiration and Commitment – are at the heart of everything we do. We have a collaborative approach to teaching and learning, and support each other to achieve our goals.

We share high expectations for our children and make learning fun and engaging through the International Primary Curriculum. Relationships throughout the school are good, and we are a UNICEF Rights Respecting School.

Nursery and Enhanced Learning Provision

We have a Nursery attached to our school which provides children from the age of three with a rich and creative learning environment. We are also fortunate to have one of Croydon’s Enhanced Learning Provisions on our school site, for children with speech and language difficulties.

Location and facilities

Set within extensive school grounds, we have a large playing field, pond area, peace garden and lots of different playground areas for our children to enjoy. We have excellent transport links, with the tram line into Croydon just a few minutes’ walk away. From Croydon, central London is a short train journey away and the town is on the outskirts of the M25.
