Job overview
We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our well-established Therapy team. West Heath School supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.the successful candidate will be required to provide assessment, planning and intervention in a flexible manner. This active department receives excellent support from school staff and senior management and provides opportunities for working with students of whom the majority have an Education, Health and Care Plan.,
West Heath School is an Independent SEN residential school with charity status. We provide a therapeutically informed learning environment for children aged 10-19 who have suffered some form of trauma and are unable to access mainstream education. As a Social, Emotional and Mental Health specialist setting, we believe in ‘rebuilding lives through education’, developing life skills and encouraging students to enjoy social activities.
Key Requirements:
- RCSLT Qualified and HCPC Registered
- Sound understanding of Speech & Language assessment and intervention
- Confidence delivering therapeutic intervention in 1:1 or group sessions
- Understanding of SEN teaching strategies and ability to advise/train staff regarding use of these in classroom or 1:1 settings
- Strong verbal, written and computer skills for detailed note taking and report writing
- Familiarity administering a variety of SaLT assessments and using tools/interventions such as Makaton and Widget desirable
- Experience of working in schools (preferably SEN) and familiarity with ECHPs desirable
- Fresh ideas and a good insight into how to support teachers
- Committed to own personal and professional development
