Job overview

We are looking to appoint a highly skilled practitioner, who can demonstrate excellent results in the classroom, to lead on our digital learning strategy. The successful candidate will also ensure excellent practice in e-safety, and take a strategic lead on the technologies used to support effective teaching and learning. Whilst excellent ICT skills are essential, the successful candidate does not need to be an ICT specialist, and we would welcome applicants from all subject areas, especially English and Maths, who want to develop their career in an exciting direction.

Leeds West Academy has state of the art ICT facilities and a creative and energetic staff, and the successful applicant will be able to take the lead in a cutting-edge approach to teaching and learning.

Purpose of job:

Ensuring ICT is effectively embedded into the curriculum, and ensuring that opportunities for effective use of digital technology in the classroom are maximised.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and lead the ICT for Teaching & Learning Strategy
  • Proactively identify opportunities to further the effective use and impact of ICT in the curriculum, working closely with Area Team Leaders & Lead Practitioners.
  • Analyse staff ICT training needs and put training programmes in place to raise the level of ICT proficiency in teaching & non-teaching staff
  • Conduct regular audits of student access to technology outside of the academy; implement appropriate plans to maximise learning opportunities at home.
  • Coordinate an ICT working party to further the use of ICT in teaching and learning
  • Ensure class based data systems are monitored and kept up to date (with the Data Manager)
  • Coordinate the sixth form electronic organisation system
  • Ensure every Area Team has effective & efficient tracking systems in place
  • Improve the extent to which the SharePoint site is used for collaborative working in Area Teams & with leaders at the other academies in the White Rose Academies Trust
  • Lead E-Safety training for all students and staff on at least an annual basis, and deliver an annual assembly on key issues; regularly report an analysis of web filtering reports to; monitor and follow up student computer and web issues with pastoral leaders.
  • Lead the development of setting work within SharePoint
  • Monitor any damage to academy ICT equipment & take steps to minimise damage
  • Work with teachers to create opportunities for data to be used with students to impact on progress
  • Work closely with the senior team to develop a long term ICT strategy driven by curriculum needs to facilitate Outstanding teaching & learning.
  • Line manage, coach and develop other staff as required by the Principal.

Leeds West is a co-educational, non-denominational 11-16 secondary in the city’s district of Bramley. The school is a member of the White Rose Academies Trust. There are currently approximately 1,300 students on the school roll. The school is located near Summerfield Primary School and Stanningley Park. The school offers an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities from martial arts to chess. The school is also sponsored by Leeds City College.
