This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We’ll provide an approximate number of hours you may asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there’s no obligation for you to accept the work offered.

The Opportunity

Based in our Additional Learning Services department, you will play an important role in helping our learners with additional needs access their education and reach their goals. You will support our students both personally and academically, adapting your approach depending on the level and nature of the programme they are studying. This includes working with learners from Entry Level 3 up to Level 3, across a variety of curriculum areas. You will be part of a supportive team led by the ALS Coordinator, while also working independently and using your initiative to provide effective support.

You will work closely with individuals or small groups, using your English and Maths skills to help learners build confidence and make progress. You will help create individual learning plans, setting and reviewing SMART targets that reflect each learner's needs, aspirations and Education, Health and Care Plans. You will also take responsibility for a caseload of students, ensuring they receive consistent, high-quality support, and you may also mentor other support workers to help share good practice.

You will also be delivering personalised support in and out of the classroom, adapting materials, identifying and addressing barriers to learning, and encouraging students to engage fully in college life. You will support our learners during exams, keep detailed and accurate records, and contribute to learner reviews and EHCP updates. You will also take part in team meetings, provide support during social times, and accompany learners on curriculum-related trips.

Your role will also involve providing personal care if needed and helping students move safely around college sites. By embedding yourself in different curriculum areas and building strong relationships with staff and learners, you will help create a positive experience for every student and make a real difference to their journey.

About You

Ideally, you will be someone who brings a positive and supportive approach every day. You will be passionate about helping our learners with additional needs to succeed and confident in adapting your support to suit different individuals and learning environments. Your calm, encouraging manner will help build strong relationships with both learners and staff, and you will approach challenges with patience and professionalism.

You will have solid English and maths skills and feel confident using these to support our learners as they build their own abilities. Experience of working with young people or adults with additional needs will be valuable, and you will be comfortable working both on your own and as part of a friendly, dedicated team. Being organised and reliable is important, especially when managing your own caseload and contributing to clear and meaningful learner records.

You will enjoy working across a range of curriculum areas, getting involved in different aspects of college life and supporting learners wherever they are. Your ability to motivate, adapt and keep learners engaged will help create an inclusive and encouraging learning environment. If you are ready to make a genuine difference and take on a varied and rewarding role, this could be a great opportunity for you.
