GRADUATE TEACHING PROGRAMME

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate who is interested in starting their career in teaching Business. This post would suit a recent graduate or someone wishing to retrain.

We would also accept applications from current PGCE students, as well as ECTs.

We are offering a two-year paid PGCE placement as a teacher of Business Studies. You will combine a full-time role teaching in a leading national A Level centre in the heart of Newcastle Upon Tyne alongside a team of professionals, whilst completing your PGCE one evening per week, being paid a competitive full time graduate salary.

This offer comprises:

• A full-time graduate salary and contribution towards the teachers’ pension scheme.

• Mentoring from an expert teacher and a wider department support to develop subject specific pedagogy, in addition to classroom-based skills.

• A fully funded two-year part time PGCE programme provided by the Newcastle School of Education within Newcastle College University Centre.

• Working in a highly professional Sixth Form College, teaching 16 to 19 year olds in an academic environment with a key focus on progression to higher Education and graduate careers.

• Opportunities for further career development and progression into a permanent position.

• An inclusive and welcoming community

This Sixth Form focused programme involves practical teaching of A-levels from the outset. We are experienced in providing this opportunity and have an outstanding track record of training excellent practitioners. The majority of teachers who have completed their PGCE as a paid placement with us have continued into full time permanent teaching roles.

Business Studies and Economics are very popular courses, with over 200 students currently studying these subjects at A Level. Newcastle Sixth Form College is the largest provider of A Levels in Newcastle-upon -Tyne with around 1,400 students on a full-time academic programme.

We were recently graded a Good Provider (OFSTED 2022). Our A Level progress score puts us in the top 25% of all schools and colleges nationally with many subjects in the top 10%.

We expect our staff to be positive role models for young people and we celebrate our diverse community, therefore we encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, beliefs or disability. Newcastle Sixth Form College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff to share this commitment.

Newcastle Sixth Form College

Established in 2013, Newcastle Sixth Form College  focuses on academic qualifications with an emphasis on providing students with the qualifications they need to progress to University.

NSFC attracts students from over 100 schools from Newcastle and across the North East to access our dedicated facilities and broad A Level offer, with 27 subjects available to study.

Our students choose NSFC for our inclusive approach. They welcome the opportunity to study subject combinations that allow them to progress, in an environment which bridges the gap between school and university. We have also developed a strong ‘respect’ ethos within the college and student feedback indicates that they feel safe and supported regardless of their background, gender or other characteristics; this is because we strongly maintain that there should be no barrier to success at NSFC.

As well as expert A Level tuition we have an enrichment offer of over 40 activities designed to socially and physically develop our students and help prepare them for their next step.

We are active members of both the Association of Colleges and the Sixth Form Colleges Association.
