The Economics department is nationally renowned for its academic success, consistently achieving amongst the best A Level Results in the country, with more than 75% of students achieving A*-A grades in the subject for the past five years. The subject is also offered at GCSE where the majority of students achieve at least an A grade.

The OCR GCSE and A Level specifications are delivered by a dedicated team of six specialist teachers, all of whom are graduates of the subject. The department prides itself on the professional development of its staff, who benefit from the support of experienced and passionate colleagues with a track record of delivering impressive outcomes for students. There is an average class size of 25 students at GCSE and 20 students at A Level and the subject is very popular with students. Of the 200 students studying the subject in the Sixth Form many go onto study it at elite Russell Group universities, with a proud tradition of progression to Oxbridge.

The department also offers the Edexcel GCSE Business course to nearly 100 students a year where outcomes are similarly outstanding. This year the department has introduced the OCR Level 2 Certificate in Enterprise & Marketing as a vocational offering for a small number of students for the first time.

Students enjoy participating in a range of extra-curricular opportunities outside of the classroom, including the Student Investor Challenge, work experience with leading financial services firms and the Bank of England and public lectures at universities.
