Eerde International Boarding School Netherlands has a vacancy for a teacher of English as a Second Language to IB DP and Foundation IB students. Candidates must be enthusiastic and dedicated, and have demonstrated expertise in inspiring foreign language students to strive to use English fluently and effectively.

The successful candidate will work with the language department to ensure that English language learners develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The candidate will engage students in interactive learning activities and inspire in them a passion for the language and for learning generally. A key part of the role is to work with students in our Foundation IB Programme (FIB), an intensive English language year designed to prepare students to successfully undertake the IB Diploma Programme in the following year. Crucial to success in this endeavour is building close, nurturing bonds with FIB students, who are usually living away from their families for the first time. Helping students to navigate the loneliness and dislocation that can arise in this situation is critical in ensuring their academic success, both in the Foundation IB program and beyond. 

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be enthusiastic about contributing to the wider community, both through extracurricular activities and through occasional (twice yearly) support in the evenings and on the weekends. 

REQUIRED

A teaching qualification or certification (QTS, PGCE or equivalent). 

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in TESOL or a related field 

An excellent command of English [near native level or C1-C2]

The ability to form close, nurturing relationships with students to develop facilitate their social and emotional development

The ability to confidently and effectively use technologies

The ability to work well as part of a team and to collaborate with others

The flexibility and desire to be a part of a dynamic school community

Work Permit for the EU

PREFERRED

Master’s degree in TESOL or a related field

At least two years' experience teaching English as a second language

Previous experience in teaching at accredited international (boarding) schools or in an international, intercultural context

Familiarity with IB English B curriculum

Familiarity with IELTS and/or TOEFL

Familiarity with the IB Diploma Programme core (Theory of Knowledge, CAS, and Extended Essay)

WE OFFER

A 1.0FTE position in an international team. Salary and benefits will be reflective of qualifications and experience.

ABOUT EERDE INTERNATIONAL BOARDING SCHOOL NETHERLANDS

Located on a tranquil country estate only one hour from Amsterdam, Eerde is the only international school in the Netherlands to offer day school, weekly boarding, and full boarding facilities.

The learning experience at Eerde is international, intercultural and individual, with personal attention for each pupil. It is a place where young people (aged 4-19) can learn, live and develop. Our small class sizes (with a maximum 15 students) ensure that we focus intensively on the development of each student.

TEACHING AT EERDE

We employ 21 teachers from 18 countries. The dynamic and close-knit group support each other and strive to create a caring, stimulating learning community. In addition to building academic skills, teachers work to ensure that students develop into caring, reflective young people. The small class sizes allow teachers to get to know their students well, and to tailor their lessons to the specific needs to their specific needs. We are an e-learning school with all students and teachers using laptops with a digital platform to support class resources and student work (Managebac).

About Eerde International Boarding School

International School Eerde (ISE) is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational independent all-through school with boarding in the Netherlands, serving students from the age of 4-18. The all-through school is situated in Ommen, and welcomes pupils from many different nationalities. There are approximately 120 pupils on record.

International School Eerde was founded in 1934 and is the oldest international school in the Netherlands. The school offers boarding for pupils aged 12 and above. Students are taught from the Cambridge curriculum and at the age of 16 take the IGCSE exams, followed by an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS).
