El Limonar International School (ELIS) has been providing a high quality bilingual education for Spanish and International students from Early Years to KS5 in the Murcia and Alicante regions, southern Spain for close to thirty years. With the appointment of a new Principal in 2012, the school underwent significant curriculum change in order to ensure that it remains the region’s top International school for the next quarter century and beyond. The Principal was then appointed Executive Principal for both the ELIS school sites in 2017.

In order to build upon our significant achievements to date, the Executive Principal is inviting applications for the post of English and Drama teacher to start on September 1st 2018. The vacancy exists due to the school’s need to replace an excellent existing member of staff who has decided to leave Spain for new challenges. 

This post requires a PGCE-qualified teacher experienced in the teaching of English across KS3 to KS5 and Drama to at least KS4: Some experience in preparing students for public examination is necessary. English at ELIS is a strong area of the curriculum and the student body (mostly second language learners) enjoy considerable success in both first and second language English and English Literature, as well as in Drama which is taught in specialist facilities. The successful post-holder would also be expected to take the lead in continuing the ELIS tradition of producing high-quality school theatre productions. The post represents a genuine career advancement opportunity for a suitably UK qualified teacher because it will following an induction period, include specific curriculum development responsibilities. 

As well as meeting the requirements of the general candidate specification, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, able to work independently and be very well organized. Some experience as an Assistant Examiner would be an advantage but is not essential.

Contracts are full time and permanent with remuneration and working conditions that reflect the Spanish national collective bargaining agreement for private education.

The closing date for applications is the 23rd of February, but an appointment could be made before that date in order to secure an outstanding candidate. Candidates are also required to submit an application letter addressed to the Executive Principal, Mr. Christopher Eversden, and may also send a C.V. (with photograph) if they wish. All applications should include the name, email and contact telephone number of three referees, one of which must be the candidate’s current Headteacher. The referees must cover at least the last five years on the candidate’s employment history.

Long-listed candidates will be notified and invited to an initial interview by Skype. Final interview will take place either in the UK or in Spain by arrangement.

El Limonar International School Villamartín is a mixed, independent, international school for students aged 3 to 18, situated in Alicante in Spain. Since it opened in 2004, student numbers have increased from 240 to over 550, and accordingly teaching staff from 26 to over 55. In 2008, the school, which has students of almost 40 nationalities, was acquired by international school’s group Cognita. During recent years, the leadership and management structure of the school has to developed to see each ELIS school having a fully independent leadership team, overseen by an ELIS Executive Principal.  ELIS Villamartín has a generous and extensive senior and middle leadership team to support with both strategic development and the day-to-day running of the school.
