The History department at Fernwood School currently consists of three specialist teachers and is part of the Humanities Faculty consisting of 9 teachers delivering History, Geography and Religious Studies. The staff are committed to providing all students with the opportunities to develop and deepen their knowledge of the human experience and to be become successful and positive global citizens.

Students in History are taught in mixed ability tutor groups at KS3 and study a broad and diverse curriculum following a thematic approach. Topics include The Norman Conquest, Henry VIII, Enslavement and Modern Terrorism in Years 7-9. At KS4, students study the Edexcel specification for GCSE. Topics include Medicine in Britain, The American West, Anglo-Saxon & Norman England and Weimar & Nazi Germany. History is a popular GCSE course at KS4 and regularly has 4 GCSE groups in Years 10 and 11. The development of effective pedagogy at the Fernwood School is something we are deeply passionate about.

• Contribute to the wider teaching of Humanities

The Fernwood School is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, 11-16 academy, situated in Wollaton in Nottingham. The school has been recognised by Ofsted and the Department for Education for excellent academic standards and outstanding care and discipline. It achieved Leading Edge status for excellent practice in 2004. There are 1,016 students on the school roll.
