Teacher of Mathematics

Main Scale – Required from September 2021

Charters School Mathematics Department is looking to appoint an exciting and innovative Teacher of Mathematics.  You will join our strong, dynamic and well-resourced department situated in our new purpose-built STEM building.  We need you to have a love of teaching and mathematics, a willingness to trial new ideas, and be a team player who puts the good of the students at the heart of all that you do.  You will be passionate about ensuring every student meets their potential and develops mathematically.

The Department has an excellent record of academic success, with over 27% of Year 11 students achieving a GCSE grade 7-9 (including 21 Grade 9s) in 2019 and as high as 86% of Year 11 students achieving grades 4-9. We aim to challenge all our students to achieve as highly as possible, and there is an opportunity for the most able students to study a Level 2 Certificate in Further Maths alongside their Maths GCSE.

We have a very strong student uptake for both A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, with four classes in each KS5 year group, and there are plenty of opportunities for staff with an interest in teaching to that level. Achievement at A Level is very strong, with some excellent value-added scores (ALPS) achieved over the last three years.

The Mathematics Department has embraced the use of interactive learning tools, and we have access to a wide range of platforms including Mathsbox, MethodMaths, Integral Maths, and the PiXL Maths App.  Successful applicants will be supported in the use of these and encouraged to use them to further enhance their classroom practice.

Charters School offers a strong tradition of excellent outcomes but also a broad curriculum suited to all students. The school’s behaviour policy is robust, and staff have welcomed the introduction of centralised sanctions and inclusive polices.

We believe our best resources are our teachers. There is a popular and thriving programme of continuing professional development in the department and across the school, at all levels, and colleagues have the opportunity to develop personally and professionally through our long-standing membership of the PiXL club. The school also offers excellent promotion prospects and a comprehensive induction programme. Colleagues benefit from a commitment to staff well-being and are provided with several schemes to support them maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. The priority admission of children of successful applicants applies for this subject.

This post would be appropriate for an NQT or a more experienced teacher – we will also consider applications from candidates who would request a part-time role.
