About Charters School

Charters School, an academy, is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive school of 1720 students with 375 students in the Sixth Form in Ascot, Berkshire. The school provides a complete range of opportunities for students to achieve well academically and for successful personal development within a caring and supportive environment.  The school has held academy status since 2012. There are four houses at the school, each named after a famous role model; (Winston) Churchill, (Florence) Nightingale, (Emmeline) Pankhurst, and (Neil) Armstrong. The school has just celebrated its 60th anniversary, having been opened on the 23rd April 1958, which is also St. George’s Day and Shakespeare’s birthday.  The red cross of the school badge comes from the cross of St. George, the dagger symbolises Shakespeare and the stag is the symbol of Berkshire.

Values and vision

The values of Charters can be defined as ‘unity, respect, and excellence’. With unity, the school community works together in common pursuit of the school's aims. With respect, every member of the school community recognises and values each others' individual qualities and characteristics.

And for excellence, every member of the school community tries to achieve their personal best in all that is undertaken and feels a collective, as well as a personal, sense of pride in these achievements.

“This outstanding school is rightly prized by the local community. Staff, students and parents are proud of their school and the education it provides. Students excel in their academic achievement and personal development. They behave impeccably and show tremendous respect to their teachers and each other.”

What people say about us

An admirable and humane school, with some of the sparkiest, brightest, most articulate and most delightful students it's been our pleasure to meet. Successfully holds its own against its glossy independent neighbours, and is preferred to same by many parents. Worth moving home for.”
