Job overview

Teacher of Music

Main Pay Range + AET Wellbeing Cash Plan + Pension Scheme (TPS) + Additional AET Benefits

Permanent, Full Time

September 2023

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Music Teacher to join the Performing Arts team. You will play a key role in teaching Music at KS3 and KS4, have excellent subject knowledge, a real passion for music and you will want all of our students to love Music as much as we do.

You will be joining a talented team of performing arts teachers who are supportive, determined, hard-working and incredibly invested in the success of our students. Students at KS3 have 1 music lesson every week and at KS4 5 lessons a fortnight plus additional interventions and optional private music tuition to complement their studies. We currently study AQA GCSE Music.

You will have access to excellent teaching facilities, including two fully equipped music classrooms with keyboards and 15 Mac computer stations in each teaching space, as well as chrome books specifically dedicated to performing arts. Additionally, we have five practice rooms with a variety of instruments, including drums, pianos and guitars. Our main hall space is equipped with a stage and is perfect for hosting concerts and large events. We are currently updating our technical set up in our main performance space to provide an even better experience for our students.

In addition to our regular curriculum, we have a KS3 and KS4 band and a school choir, giving our students a range of opportunities to explore their musical talents. We work on termly showcases for spring, summer, and Christmas, giving our pupils the chance to perform for a live audience.

Our faculty also organises a range of trips, including an annual Year 7 pantomime trip, bespoke brass and composition workshops hosted in school, and theatre companies coming into school to perform for whole year groups. Local trips are also available for KS4 students. With good transport links to Colchester and Braintree, these trips are easily accessible.

Music is a popular subject at our school, and we have close links to Essex Music Services who run a music school at Maltings. Essex Music Service supports us with the development of music at our school and offers even more opportunities for our pupils to explore their musical talents.

This is a growing department, and there is a real opportunity for a new teacher of music to come in and shape the direction of music and potentially add another qualification at KS4. There are excellent development and career progression opportunities available. A Recruitment and Retention Allowance will be available for an exceptional candidate.

Maltings is a 11-16 academy based in Witham, Essex. Situated between the city of Chelmsford and Colchester, the academy has 900 students on roll and benefits from a purpose-built building that was constructed in 2011. There are excellent transport links to London which enables our staff and young people to take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities that London provides. Free car parking facilities are available on site.

Visits to the academy are welcomed. For an informal discussion about the post, and to arrange a visit please contact Julie Joiner: jjoiner@maltingsacademy.org
