We wish to appoint a full time or part time teacher of Science to join this Outstanding department. Applications are welcome from individuals of all faiths or none, who will support the Catholic ethos of our school. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of dedicated specialists who ensure that students enjoy learning and achieve excellent outcomes.

Our repeatedly oversubscribed School achieved 80% 4+ in Maths and 79% in English at GCSE. 21% of all grades were 7+. The Sixth Form received an ALPS ‘3’ judgement in 2018 with 51% of all A-level and BTEC grades A*-A and 68% A*-B.

In our previous Ofsted Section 5 inspection both ‘Behaviour & Safety’ and our Sixth Form were judged ‘outstanding’. In our most recent monitoring visit (January 2018) Ofsted stated that the ‘…steady and reassuring approach ensures the strong commitment of staff…’ and ‘the teachers are welcoming and friendly, and it creates an atmosphere where you belong…’

We achieve consistently outstanding KS4 results – in June 2018 42% Grade 7-9 in GCSE Biology, 39% Grade 7-9 in GCSE Physics and 46% Grade 7-9 in GCSE Chemistry. At A-level, Chemistry received an ALPS 2 and Physics received an ALPS 5. Many students at the John Fisher School aspire to pursue Science and Medical courses at University. Recent past A Level students have gone on to study subjects such as Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Pure Physics & Medicine. The school is a member of the ‘Partners in Excellence’ club.

The Science Team consists of nine full time teachers and three technicians. The department currently has eight classrooms, all equipped with interactive white boards. The Physics department has dedicated teaching rooms in our new £2.8 million Sir David Lane Building.

We offer:

There is definitely a culture of achievement at John Fisher and visitors always comment about our “distinctive” ethos. If you come to visit us, you will see that our students are happy and are very positive about our school.

Our vibrant staff are enthusiastic and passionate about ensuring our students get the very best deal. Looking after our staff and ensuring they are supported and given every opportunity to develop:

“As an NQT, I was very pleased with the support I received” (Ella Fowler, Acting Subject Leader of Art);

I am really proud to be a member of staff at The John Fisher School. During my time here I have had many opportunities to develop my knowledge and skills. This has enabled me to progress from Director of Learning to Assistant Headteacher. Well-being continues to be an important focus for all in our community and this compliments the Catholic ethos of the school.” (Iestyn Jones, Assistant Headteacher).

Our teachers:

· Never receive judgements about their teaching.
