Background to the post

Following the retirement of the current post holder we are looking for a highly skilled, energetic and committed professional to further improve the teaching, learning and assessment of Social Sciences at Worthing College. As the college seeks to consolidate its ‘best ever’ results and aspires to become an ‘outstanding’ provider, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to influence team developments, build on its strengths and be instrumental in developing changing areas of the curriculum.

Courses offered by the team are amongst the most popular in the college and it is envisaged that student numbers will expand/increase in the next academic year. The staff work very closely together and the successful applicant would be expected to work as an enthusiastic team member to meet and exceed objectives.

The college prospectus is available on the college website www.worthing.ac.uk as are detailed subject descriptions of the courses delivered by the team. Individual course SAR analysis documents are available on request. The team is well resourced and has high quality ILT equipment to support and enhance teaching and learning, the team is also supported with a well-stocked library.

Student achievement data by cohort broken down by pass, retention, high grades and achievement rates, is available on request. Each area is analysed against benchmarks and internal targets.  Following the 2017 exam results, the Social Sciences team is focused on significant action to improve value added in A Level Psychology and Sociology, consolidating the impressive start made to the Criminology course that began in September 2017 and considering new vocational provision in the area.
