The purpose of education at Greenwood Academy is to ensure that all pupils, regardless of background, develop the knowledge and character needed to achieve personal and academic excellence to lead ‘Remarkable Lives’. We provide students with some of the most vital substantive and disciplinary knowledge to access further qualifications but also to prepare students for an ambitious life after school whether that be accessing higher education or finding a true vocation. You would join a strong team which believes in a knowledge rich curriculum, through which Young People access a variety of high quality texts as part of an immersive journey. 

We are looking for an outstanding Teacher of Spanish who is really passionate about helping our students succeed and grow as individuals. The successful candidate will be a team player who is passionate about their classroom practice and committed to ensuring that teaching and learning are the very best they can be. We need someone who is invested in developing their own subject knowledge and teaching pedagogy, as well as that of others. Candidates must be able to teach across the ability and age range, supporting the development of Spanish to the highest standards for all pupils at Key Stages 3 and 4. 

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Be passionate about languages; 
  • Have a proven track record of success and raising pupil attainment in Spanish 
  • Have the ability to deliver innovative lessons, which demonstrate high expectations of students, and inspire them to succeed, improving achievement at both Key Stages for all learners.  
  • Be committed to Greenwood Academy ethos of high expectations and no excuses;

Greenwood Academy is a vibrant, successful 11-18 Academy situated in the heart of Castle Vale.  We moved into our £20 million new build in September 2017 with world class facilities.  Coupled with this is a highly professional staff and students who are keen to learn.  As a result of being oversubscribed, we are embarking on the next wave of recruitment for the highest calibre of staff who can help us to grow our school community.

Quality first teaching is at the core of everything we do. To support this, our evidence-based Teaching and Learning vision incorporates Barack Rosenshine’s Principles of Direct Instruction.  Literacy is a significant part of every lesson. Standard written and Spoken English is insisted upon and modelled by all teachers to ensure our students can achieve their potential.

Most importantly, we do not grade observations at Greenwood Academy, we believe that regular, developmental feedback creates a strong, supportive and vibrant culture.

2. Expectations

We have a firm and fair approach to behaviour, systematically supported by senior staff; all pupil detentions are centralised and run by senior staff every day. Teachers are therefore able to prioritise the planning and teaching of their subject.

3. Work-life balance

We are committed to reducing teacher workload and making sure that everything we do has a positive impact on pupil learning. This means we have a slimmed-down marking policy, a centralised knowledge focused homework policy, no parents evenings and a minimal assessment, reporting and data entry cycle.
