If you are an innovative, enthusiastic and passionate Biologist, then this will be the job for you. This post  provides a unique opportunity to work within a high-performing and growing 11 to 18 school with a large sixth-form and exceptional students. With an intake of over 600 post-16 and 210 in next year’s Year 7, Heckmondwike  Grammar School is a dynamic place to be. We are also expecting the significant addition of a new £1.1 million sixth form centre nearby, ready for September 2018. We would like to appoint an outstanding Biology Teacher. We passionately believe that Biology is of vital and fundamental importance as a science. The Biology department has seven specialist teachers and two technicians. The department uses five well-equipped modern laboratories, a large staff office and a dedicated prep room. We have detailed schemes of work and we share resources in order to achieve high standards of teaching and learning. Teachers usually teach in all key stages.

In Biology we follow the Edexcel GCSE (9-1) specification. Achievement is very high; in recent years Biology students have achieved a 100% pass rate at GCSE with 70% of grades at A* - A (grades 7-9 in the new system).

Over 300 students study Biology at A-Level, following the Edexcel “B” A-level specification. Our students achieve good results at A- Level, with over 50% of grades at A* - B.  Almost all A-Level Biology students continue to University, many studying medicine or related degrees and various branches of science.
