The opportunity

As our Tutorial Learning Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the academic and personal development of our learners. Based at our state-of-the-art CUBE facility, you’ll guide a caseload of our students, ensuring they feel supported, motivated, and able to access College services or external resources with ease. Your primary focus will be on identifying and addressing barriers to learning, fostering student success, and encouraging personal growth.

Your duties will include identifying at-risk students through collaboration with teachers, parents, and external agencies, and implementing tailored strategies to build confidence and self-esteem. You will provide one-to-one mentoring and small group activities, such as peer support and anger management sessions, while supporting transitions from school to college or between academic years. You will work closely with students to set targets, monitor progress, and maintain effective communication with parents, guardians, and external agencies.

You will also prepare course materials and deliver effective group tutorials focused on study skills, career guidance, and personal development. You’ll support our students in completing their personal learning plans (PLPs), monitor attendance and punctuality, and make referrals to relevant support services when necessary. Through motivational dialogue, you’ll inspire students to engage fully with their learning journey, ensuring they stay on track to achieve their goals.

As a key member of the Tutorial Team, you will also work closely with the Tutorial Team Leader to ensure timely completion of duties, including engagement with work placements, monitoring our at-risk students, and contributing to themed tutorial weeks. Your role will be both dynamic and impactful, as you support our learners in overcoming challenges and unlocking their potential.

About you

Ideally, you’ll bring compassion, motivation, and strong organisational skills to support our learners in reaching their educational and personal goals. You’ll enjoy helping students overcome challenges and staying on track, using your empathy and practical strategies to make a real difference in their journey.

Your ability to build positive relationships will be key. Whether you’re mentoring students one-to-one, delivering engaging group tutorials, or collaborating with parents, external agencies, and colleagues, your excellent communication skills will help create a supportive and encouraging environment.

With a proactive mindset and excellent organisational skills, you’ll confidently handle a variety of tasks. From monitoring attendance and preparing materials to developing tailored strategies for at-risk students, you’ll approach every challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Teamwork will also be central to your role, as you work closely with others to ensure every learner gets the support they need.

You’ll ideally bring a relevant qualification in mentoring, education, or youth work, alongside experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral setting. Your knowledge of safeguarding practices and your confidence in delivering tutorials will enable you to provide the guidance and encouragement that students need to succeed.
