We are looking for an outstanding leader with a passion for improving teaching and learning and developing staff to become our new Vice Principal, Quality of Education. This is a new role which has come about due to the re-organisation of roles at VP level. The final responsibilities will be decided with the successful candidate but it will definitely include responsibility for Teaching and Learning and the curriculum. Ideally, you will hold a similar role at a senior leadership level and may be looking to become a headteacher in the next 3 to 4 years.

We offer fantastic students, a dynamic, friendly and committed staff and a highly ambitious and talented leadership team that wants to ensure we remain one of the best schools in London. We have worked hard to ensure that we are financially stable moving forwards and are able to offer a good CPD budget for the VP to manage as well a laptop, private healthcare and a free lunch for the successful candidate. Our staff are settled, happy, hard working and have a thirst for high quality CPD. Our award-winning academy building is a great place to work in and we are easily accessible from Imperial Wharf station (Overground), Chelsea Harbour (boat) and a 10 minute walk from Fulham Broadway (District line).

The application pack and letter as well as our current teaching and learning policy will give you a flavour of our school and we welcome interested candidates to come and visit us (see below for more details and how to book a place on a tour). As a Church of England sponsored academy we welcome staff, students and parents from all faiths and backgrounds but expect all employees to have regard for our Christian values that are demonstrated through the taught and non-taught curriculum.

In particular, candidates should:

  • Have experience of working as a member of a secondary school leadership team as a deputy headteacher, assistant headteacher or equivalent.
  • Be an outstanding teacher with the ability to inspire students in their learning and secure consistently impressive examination results.
  • Have a successful and varied track record of school leadership and experience of working in more than one institution.
  • Possess proven ability to lead school-wide initiatives that have a lasting impact
  • Show evidence of continued professional development, in particular with regard to school leadership.
  • Have relevant experience of working in comprehensive, urban and multicultural environments.
  • Demonstrate success in raising attainment and standards of teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate skills in curriculum planning and management.
  • Possess strong leadership and management skills.
  • Have sound technical understanding of school leadership issues, the Ofsted inspection framework (both current and proposed), changes to the curriculum and assessment requirements.
  • Have the ability to make accurate judgments with regard to the quality of learning and teaching and student progress.
  • Have experience of working within the SSAT TEEP framework (or be able to articulate how this model works).
  • Have a passion for teaching and learning and related pedagogy.
  • Have experience of working in a school with a distinctive Christian ethos or the ability to articulate how such an ethos could be developed and the capacity to contribute to this.

How to apply

You need to write no more than two sides of A4 explaining why you are suited to the role and the impact that you have had in your current or previous roles. You will also need to complete an Academy application form (sorry but we do not accept CVs) available from the Academy website (click  careers on the left side and scroll down). Application form and letter should be emailed to recruitment@chelsea-academy.org or uploaded to the TES. We will use application letters to shortlist and unfortunately are unable to provide feedback on application forms.

NEW Closing Date:  Monday 13th May 9am (extended due to an error in listing the job on the TES) .

Interview Date: Thursday 16th May 2019 and Friday 17th May 2019 (TBC).

Further Information

Chelsea Academy is sponsored by the London Diocesan Board for Schools and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We are a warm, friendly and inclusive school with a strong  Christian ethos and have a track record of excellent examination success and first class staff development. We combine traditional values and high standards with an innovative approach to learning and teaching and a strong commitment to staff development. The Academy’s specialism is the sciences and we also offer 10% of our places to students with a musical aptitude. Visitors to the school have consistently commented on the high standards of behaviour, enthusiasm for learning and confidence of our students, as well as the Academy’s stunning new £43m building.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection in September 2023, saw us being judged strongly good in all areas. Our current SIAMS grading is outstanding. Recent outcomes at GCSE and A Level demonstrate  strong progress for all students with the Academy’s GCSE results this summer being the highest the Academy has ever achieved. However, we are much more than a successful, academically focused school. We believe in educating the whole child and our Christian values of joy, perseverance, servant leadership, charity and forgiveness underpin everything we stand for. It is important that all of our staff, whether they are teachers or not, work closely with our young people and ensure that they are successful in all that they do. We are looking for staff who will always go the extra mile for our young people and believe that education happens both in and out of the classroom.

Chelsea Academy is an excellent place to work and we are looking for talented individuals to join our team. If you don't see a post that you are interested in then please do contact us and ask to be kept on our recruitment database.
