A 1960s education for the 21st century

Michael Gove’s proposal for a two-tier examination system is at best misguided and at worst damaging. Regardless of whether GCSEs need revamping, a two-tier system would be hugely damaging to the gains schools have made in the past 30 years. Gove’s passion is to be applauded. On this, however, he needs to listen. A two-tier system is wrong for pupils, it is wrong for schools and it is wrong for David Cameron’s Big Society.
