Sport England, formerly known as the Sports Council, is committed to encouraging every child to stay physically active for life. To this end, it has launched the Active Schools programme which gives teachers the support, training and resources needed to give children better physical education and sports provision.

Sport England has also established Activemark and Activemark Gold awads for primary and middle schools to complement its Sportsmark scheme for secondaries. Active schools officers in each of the 10 Sport England regions will offer support to achieve the award.

They will also advise staff on other initiatives such as coaching programmes for teachers and how to get grants to develop links with local sports clubs.
