A dozen alternatives to mainstream education are to be piloted for excluded pupils and those in danger of exclusion. The 12 schemes will be spread across England and will include a project involving a city farm, an academy and Army Cadet Force training. Charities and private sector groups, including training business Unoco, will oversee the schemes, which could pave the way for profit-making state education.
